foxy got a reaction from popeye the sailor in HMS Victory by foxy - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC - with Dafi's etch & resin set
Thank you Daniel.
Yep was a challenge and thanks to your helpful hints it came out OK.
Well before sorting the stand, I decided to do the Hatch's, the Heller one's I thought were to small in height.
So am making mine from evergreen plastic.
I made up rough using the Heller grates.
After sawing/sanding they began to take shape.
Note Marine Officer Captain Hatcher is Officer of the watch.
Some paint next and then fix.
Then its to the Captains quarters we go.

Cheers Guys.
Thanks Bob shipmate.
Moved on a bit with the planking.
Used four apart for the main quarter deck and three apart for the Poop deck.
But first the pike racks.
These are Dafi's etched parts, and as he say's in his hints and tips, 'very fiddly'.
Both the foremast and main carried these in racks, main full circle, fore half circle around masts.
Fitted 5mm from the deck.
As I am planking this deck, I used some wood to get the height and fixed the lower rack circle with the top one just slid on. Then measured the distance and fixed the top rings.
Then loaded the pikes.
Some touching up with paint.
Next its some strapping to hold pikes in position.
Then it was the turn of the deck.
Worked from the centre out.
'Hey presto'.
Now completed the planking on all decks.
Next its to fit a better support for the stands fixed to the keel.
Have some wood and brass one's.
Will use the Brass I think.
The stands that come with the kit are to flimsy and keep snapping.
So before I go to much further, this has to be sorted.
Frank.

Thank you guy's for your input, most appreciated.
Well from there it was a case of mounting the next (quarter deck).
First Nelsons cot.
The deck was put in in two parts, so as not to damage any thing below.
Added chequed pattern to Captains quarters.
Plus the support posts on the boat deck.
Next its Dafis etched pike racks that adorn the Four and main masts.

Well here I be again folks.
Some more update on the build.
First a picture of the boats which are now finished and ready when needed.
Next is the 12 Pdrs in place and roped.
Added the doors to the forecastle.
And an overall picture of the progress.
Next was the block and tackle, had these made up earlier, but it takes time to fit.
Before.
After.
Next its the net rails around the Hatch's.
These were made of brass.
Sprayed with a Tamiya grey primer and then hand painted black.
Then when dry a coat of Admiralty white paint.
Not a hundred percent correct on the supports.
Added netting and it looks much better.

Well started weathering the hammocks.
This stuff is clay based and can be washed off as required, once dry it stay's.
Next is the very usefull keel clamp I was on about, boy don't it make life easier.
With the boats near finished, it was time for the oars.
made these in four parts for two of the boats and three parts for the other three.
Four parts
Three parts.

Cheers Keith.
Well you know all that furniture I made, well now have added some to the Admirals day room.
Just some items for the table, like sexton/maps and such.
Maybe a picture of Lady Hamilton on the wall and lights plus curtains.
Go's on and on don't it.

Another update. This time on the hammocks, I used the Heller one's for this, lucky I had two sets, the one's that come with the kit are to thin so decided to double up.
Sanded down one side of each same length.
Glued under pressure.
Once dry added plastic filler to the top surface.
Sprayed from a can a plastic primer and left to dry.
Then sprayed when dry a mix of buff and white(Humbrol)
Bit o weathering later, job done.

The poop deck kept my attention today, having planked it I started putting Dafi's eyelets/kevels in place.
Also the beams across the skylight.
Placed the etch skylight and you can see the beams, so thanks Daniel for the input on that.
Also working on the furniture for the Captains quarters, will not bore you with it till I have completed this section of the ship.

Thanks Lawrence, There are so many good builds here its a job to take them all in.
Yours is no exception.
Hi Ronald.
The deck planking are 2mm and 3mm, mostly 2mm wide maple.
I got mine from Cornwall model boats(England), there 1'000 in lengths, but they cut them down to export.
The lathe is of German make and I believe I got this from Axmister tools in England.
I am sure you could also get these in the States too.
Hope this helps.
Moving on a touch with the top shrouds.
Keeping them loose on the running rigging till all done, then its the stay's to tension up and then tighten up the shroud runners.
You could if you wanted to make all adjustable, but as this is a static model all will be fixed.

foxy got a reaction from avsjerome2003 in how to work with teeny blocks???
Nice work and very good detail in tying the knot.
In 1/100 scale it would be a little more difficult with fine thread don't you think.
I CA the groove and lay thread over till dry then wind round thread and tie/ seize ether loop or long length.

Well its been a bit hard going, as I should have done the fire buckets earlier, anyone having a go at this should think on this.
Now having enuff KG etched crests(thanks to Daniel)I started thinking on how to place them with the shroud ropes done.
I added a strip of plastic from the tops left over part, stuck this behind to the top of the plastic rear bulkhead of the poop deck.
Then used plastic glue to hold buckets, later will add CA to the handles.
Later when all settled will paint handles and surrounding area black.
Next its on to the upper shroud ropes.
Used .63mm for the lower and for the upper will use .30mm black.
For both shrouds I will use .08mm for the ratlines.

Thanks Daniel and David.
Well before i go on my well earned leave, some more progress.
Its to the bowsprit i am now concentrating on.
Some blocks from Scale warships resin heart blocks added.
Then looked at the Boomkin, the Heller one is very flimsy, so looked at wood first, then found some plastic rod and brass rod to give it strength.
This I glued into the tube and then to the lathe I went to taper it.
In the picture the bottom one is the new, also at the top is some brass rod and Dafis etched parts for the safety net here in the bow.
Push fitted to Dafis Resin Knights head.
Plus a couple of pictures of the overall state of build in the bow.

A small update.
All HNs now done and around the poop steps.
Space for the bow Anchor later.
Empty nets but will add three more Hammocks to this one.
Left one empty, but will fill later with H.
No excuse now to start the Bowsprit!!!!.

Well having drilled out the holes yesterday for the Hammock Irons it was to that I applied this morning.
Shortened the HN for the centre by two.
Added the two HN to the forecastle end.
Next it was a trial fit of the boats.
One other will be hanging from a davit later.
Then its a touch up of paint for the Irons and railing.
The banisters will be painted wood and netting added.
After all the netting is in place,(will do the same as the centre).
Its to the Bowsprit I be going.

Some more progress with the Hammock nets using Dafi's etched set for this.
Made up one side.
With a test fit of the Hammocks.
Once I have done the other side will make up the nets.
The stern end is the big challenge for the nets here.
Also working on the banisters for the poop stairs.
Then its on to the Bowsprit and Stay's.

foxy got a reaction from Dimitris71 in HMS Victory by foxy - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC - with Dafi's etch & resin set
Had a good day today with lots done.
Finished Kevels, Guns and ropes for the quarter deck, staghorn and poop steps, still to finish banisters off.
About half way on now.
Still to do the eye bolts and Hammock nets along sides.
When this done its on to the rigging,Bowsprit and Stay's down the middle.

foxy got a reaction from etubino in HMS Victory by foxy - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC - with Dafi's etch & resin set
Moved on to the hammock nets.
Finished the first one.
How I went about it was like this.
Using Dafi's etched base with handles for the fire buckets and drilled out holes for the Net Irons.
Then measured and glued the net to the base of the Hammocks, this to allow no detail to be damaged.
Then able to slide both along and then thread ropes through the Irons.

foxy got a reaction from etubino in HMS Victory by foxy - Heller - 1/100 - PLASTIC - with Dafi's etch & resin set
Well its to the tops I be going.
Removed the DE etched parts from Dafis fret and found some of the deadeyes loose.
So after making sure all was fixed down ship shape I then filed the burrs off both ends of the etched parts.
Drilled out the holes in the tops so the etched futtock shrouds would push fit through the holes.
Left loose till later.
Then its six aside for the Fore and Main tops.
four aside for the Mizzen.
Now I know why I did not complete the ratlines yet, is most fiddly at this point to secure ropes etc to the belaying pins.
With that in mind and having Dafis etched motives for the fire buckets, its to that I am next working on.
.
More soon shipmates.

Thank you Daniel.
Tis to the fire buckets using dafis etched KG parts.
First how NOT to remove fire buckets from spru.
Note bad cuts to the rear of the buckets.
Use a proper cutting tool and leave a little to file to shape.
The KG etched parts were formed with round pliers.
Should look like this.
Twenty one are needed for the quarter deck, but a few extra will help later for the crew to carry maybe.
The buckets come in black plastic, but to make a difference I painted them leather(as new).
They were tarred inside and later outside.
'My choice'!!!!.
