You gentlemen working on the Sanson.  Start some build logs.  I have the model sitting in a box.  Might be my next project.

I completed most of the cabin work.  I let the paint dry for a couple of days so it could be easily handled.  Since the deck is slightly curved, I placed sandpaper on the deck and "sanded" the bottom of each cabin or piece of furniture before gluing to the deck.  This worked well.

If you look at the first photo you can see that I have carved my bow spirit and I am now working on mounting it.  Interesting process to go from square at one end of the bow spirit to round at the other end.  Once it is mounted, I have more metal work to perform.

You can say one thing about this hobby, you sure get to work with a lot of different materials and learn a lot of new processes.

While I ran into a rough section over the past week or so.  I began working on some of the brass fixtures which require soldering.  Found out I don't solder well.  I ruined a lot of brass pieces.  Finally found a jewelry making site with lots of learn to solder videos.  Found out I was doing it all wrong.  Went out and bought a pencil torch and started practicing.  I was doing two things wrong.  First, I did not "clamp" the pieces being solder together .  Solder doesn't fill gaps well.  Second, I was using too much solder.  I have a long way to go but feel I got over a hump.  This is my solder station.  You can see how I am using pins to hold pieces together.  Finally, the two oyster drags I worked on over the weekend.

It is always nice to stop and admire where we are in the build and all the work it took to get there.  Beautiful.

Final step of the weekend was to add the copper plating to the hull.  I think this is to protect the hull from ice in the winter.  Used the self adhesive copper plumbers tape.

I spent a few hours building this waterline marker.  Seems to work well

Started work on the main cabin at the stern.  Quite a bit of work goes into each cabin.

Well, I finally completed the deck and have scraped it down.  Still have not decided on how I will finish.  Will start building the deck cabins now.

Well, I am getting real close with the deck planking.  Thanks to" russ" and "capt n bob"; the scraping process really worked well.  Most if not all of the grey dust that was all over the deck has been removed.  You do go thru quite a few single edge razors.

Well I have started planking the deck.  To simulate deck caulking I am using a permanent marker to darken one edge of the plank before positioning and gluing.  I am a little nervous how this will turn out.  You cannot see the effect in the attached photo but as I sand the deck planking the grey saw dust from the edges is coating the decking and making it look greyish.  Brushing and blowing off the decking removes some of it; but there is no doubt there is a grey tinge to the decking.  Anyone else experience this?  Should I try wiping the deck down with a tack cloth?  Some cleaner like Windex?  A light solvent?  Help!
