maaaslo replied to maaaslo's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment

hello everybody. ive got a little project under the table, in the box... it is an older model of Albatross from Mantua, veeery old model... it was in terible state, so i will be doing her up. before i start any serious work on her, id like to get all the materials and things i need to finish her. one of them are cleats. those supplied are just bent piece of staple, which is not very accurate... bearing in mind the scale of the model is supposed to be 1:40, what size of cleats would you recommend? also, which ones should i get, wood, plastic or brass? any good manufacturer? thank you for any help... pav

slagoon, congrats on naming the ship indeed she is SS Egypt. have been requisitioned by goverment as hospital ship. she sunk after the collision with french steamer Seine with more than £1000000 pounds worth silver, gold and sovereigns. thats when she become the target for the recovery operation. one of the biggest of that time. more info in here: http://www.deepimage.co.uk/wrecks/egypt/egypt_mainpages/egypt_history.htm Slagoon, your turn in the game. please find something harder than me..
-
She was not torpedoed, she sunk after the collision in bay Biskay and later become very visited for one purpouse. She indeed was hospital ship during ww1. Enough hints, one of you was veeeeery close already.
-
Sorry, wrong answer, i will correct myself later. Im driving now...
-
No, it is not Royal Mail Ship...
-
Nope, none of your guesses is right. She was not a troop ship in any wars, altough she was somehow involved with troops in ww1. Hope its not too much help. Of for now, i have to go to work. Today im going to do deliveries in londons rush hour...
-

Oh, yes, that was pathetic. I did not see that line there at all... That happens when you edit picture on screen smaller than actual picture... O appologize for stupid mistake... Maybe next time...

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
