  1. Id like to place my order for rings and eye bolts. Those look fantastic
  2. Thanks for the quick reply Chuck. I agree, just wanted guidance. You've studied contemporary models more than I ever will. And thanks RockinBudgie. This project has been a real test of my talent but I feel like it has vastly improved my building skills and boosted my confidence to try more complex models. Chuck has designed the perfect project to help people develop the skills they need to step into scratch or semi scratch. I feel like I know now what it takes to do some serious kit bashing and make some of the available kits into something better. I dont think I could build a model straight from the box now.
  3. Chuck, I have a question. I don't plan on adding cannon as I see a lot of contemporary models don't. My question is should I still add the eye volts and rings? I'm not trying to avoid it, I'm just wanting your opinion.
  4. Temporarily fitting deck beams. Need to get all the eye bolts and rings installed next. Guess I better order my windlass kit.
  5. Making a little progress. Yes I know I didn't paint the stem black. Just seems a shame to paint over all the joinery on the stem
  6. Starting on hair brackets tonight. Getting laser char off of such small parts is quite a challenge. A before and after shot
  7. Haven't made much progress on the model. I stumbled on 2 of these mills. One is CNC and I'm converting this one to a manual mill.
  8. Working on deck planking. Some of the joinery took lots of trys but making progress. No hurry but I'll be glad when the planking is done
  9. Ships stove complete. Waiting for paint to dry to start some weathering. That stove is an awesome little kit. I'm gonna be spoiled for other models now.
  10. Got my rudder trunk and benches put in. Next is the cannon door lids. Ive struggled with port doors on previous models. Gonna take all the time it takes to make em right
  11. Waiting on a delivery of more cedar for planking straps on the deck so I decided to go ahead and do some chapter 5 work.
  12. Chuck I was thinking about what you said about my joints being too short and I agree after looking at deck plan blueprint but I used the margin plank patterns as a guide for my joints. I snapped a pic of my joint next to the pattern. I see where the confusion happened.
  13. Chuck you have a sharp eye. I see it after comparing it to the deck plan. I don't know if I wanna change it now as I have all but the last margin planks glued on the model. As you said in the instructions, there's a good chance they won't be visible. Chock another one up to lack of experience. The problem with experience is you get it after you need it. Lol
  14. Working on the margin planks, first time doing those bastardly scarf joints. Results aren't perfect but pretty good
  15. Thank you glbarlo. Mistakes are plenty I'm a pretty harsh critic of my own work as we all are.
  16. As promised, here's a few pics of my progress. I will do better posting updates.
  17. Its coming along. Im sorry I havent posted any updates. I will do that as soon as I get home today. Im slacking on my build log. Ive made it to planking the inner bulwarks. I'll get back on the updates.
  18. I've made a little progress since I've been able to work on her some. Feels good to make wood shavings and smell that Alaskan cedar. She's not perfect but I'm happy so far. Made some mistakes but overall I'm pretty happy
  19. I think I have a nice smooth run on the strakes. Also got the transom faired the best I can. Chuck, does the fairing on the transom look ok to you? If everything looks OK I'll plank the counter and start the whales.
