  1. Good catch on the tack bloks Arthur. I had to drill them in place. Was a real pain as I ended up gluing the drill on a long skewer and drill them that way. I also found that the two 3 mm blocks for the main topgallant an the fore topgallant yards lifts had to be rigged for the standing part of the lines. That is not indicated on the block rigging drawings for the topgallant masts.
  2. I installed a 3 mm because the larger block looked desproportionate with the other block in that line (a 4 mm double) and with the diameter of the boom.
  3. Welcome back. I hope you had a great vacation. If there are more mistakes on the rigging either I did not noticed or I corrected the to the best of my understanding. I finished the rigging including the installation of the sails. At this point I am on the finals details, lamps, anchors, gun port doors. rope coils and such. When I have a chance I will email you some pics. I think it looks also good with the sails. Jose
  4. Bob: A heads up, if you have not yet completed the assembly of the top spirit sail yard note that the yard plan asks for a Q block (double 4 mm block) for the yard halyard. In reality, if you see the rigging plan the block should be an N block (a 3 mm single block). Happy New Year!! Jose
  5. The sequence on the drawings is the one you seem to have followed but the sequence on the instructin book is different were the backstays are installed first which is also the sequence proposed by Petterson. In any case difficult to notice.
  6. Well, that is the order called by the sequence on the rigging plan althogh not many may notice.
  7. Hi Bob: Here some ideas. For the foremast royal stay block you could: 1) Tie the additoional block a couple of mm ahead of the ones installed 2) Rotate the bottom one to be used for the top spirityard tie 180 degrees and use it for the stay and add a new bottom one with a short 5 mm lead to be used for the top spirityard. See pic below. For the belaying points for the boats hoists I am planning to use the bellfry railing and the railing in front of the main mast marked as Alt 6 and Alt 7 on the pic below. Enjoy! Jose
  8. Hi Arthur. For bad or good, I installed the rings to the sails at the time I made them to make it easier and more accurate to hang them on the frame for fan forming. Now I need to thread the stay on the sail at the time of installation.
  9. Beautiful work Bob. I am also working on the stays. All the back stays at the moment as I need to install them before the stays which I need to install with the staysails on them at the same time. I got your email. The site name on the picture is wrong. Try this link http://www.historicships.com/TALLSHIPS/Amati/HMS%20Vanguard%20AM130004/HMS_Vanguard.htm The view buttons at the bottom will give extra detailed views of the model. Enjoy! Jose
  10. Bob: I added two eyelets to the bowspirit, one on each side close to the base of the bowspirit cap for the shrowds while Arthur installed the shrowds to the same eyelets to be used for the spirityard deadeyes. From the pictures of the model, I do not think it had those two additional shrouds. Here is my understanding so far. 1. The two top eyelets on the face of the cap are for the standing part of the rigging of the foreyard preventer brace. from there the line (One on each side) got to the yard then back through the block on top of the cap then to the belaying point. See drawing 11 line 86 2. The top eyelet on the sides of the cap is for the 3 mm blocks used for the fore top sail bow lines. See drawing 11 or 13 line no.70 3. The second and third eyelets on either side of the cap is to tie the standing an block portion respectively of the spirityard lift. See drawing 10 line 30 4 The bottom eyelets on the sides of the cap are fot the spirityard deadeyes. Many of these rigging lines go through the firelead. Hope this helps. Jose
  11. Bob: I do not think the stay passes through the firelead. If you see a pic of the model attached you will see the stay block before the lead on the upper left corner of the picture. Also as you can see there got to be plenty of other lines through the fairlead and none of them are black as the stay would be.
  12. I hope I could help you there but other than familiarizing with the drawings I have rigged only the spitit shrowds. Any particular doubt you might have let me know, may be two brains (or three) might figure it out.
  13. Oh Bob! After seeing your great work I am seriously considering redoing some of my rigging. Darn!
  14. I think the netting worth the pain Bob. On the sheaves, I installed them higher but had to install the blocks on eyelets rather than tied around the mast. That is giving me good room for the shrouds and stays.
  15. I am tempted to add them too but before adding all the running rigging up front. I decided to add the sails, they are plenty and some really huge. Finished sewing, forming and attaching them to the yards. the ones at the bottom will be clewed not to hide the deck details. Was a lot of work. I am working on shrowds and stays at the moment.
  16. Great work on those stays Bob and very beautiful boats, they are superb. I noticed on your picture of the Victory that there is a net at the stem of the ship. Isn't the Vanguard supposed to be fit with those too? Keep up the good work. Jose.
  17. Thanks Bwood for asking. I had the same question and assumed there might have been a false stay just for the sail as Popeye described but als think int might have rarely beeing set so I would probably leave it off.
  18. CA glue on threads make them brittle so they will tend to eventually break.
