Very nice model! I would like to see the tools you use. I build ships in bottles also. Have you visited http://www.bottledshipbuilder.com/ ? Congratulations on the very good work you are doing!

  2. I deliberately chose to only model the mast and its rigging, not even the channels are really modeled but the lower deadeyes are located properly. The flat topped wooden base is just a crude stool who's length and width scale to Pandora's deck and the width and length of her channels. There is no curvature or camber to the top of the stool but its hight matches the hight of the deck at the Partners, and the Heel of the Main Mast sits in a step the proper depth beneath.

  3. This scratch built wood model is eight feet tall with its base. Its a representation, as close as I could manage, of every detail of gear and rigging as would be found on the Main Mast of the H.M.S. Pandora. I left off lines that would not belay or dead end on the portion of the hull I was representing, so there is no Main Stay, or any other stay for that matter and the Braces hang in space. I provided the hearts and deadeyes for the Mizzen standing rigging, but not the lines themselves.

  4. Is this a ship model or is it a piece of furniture? I often see perfectly serviceable wooden broom and mop handles in the trash and they would always tempt me to put them to use as spars in a large model. This thought merged with another dream I had of making a window shade in the shape of a sail. Eventually the ideas coalesced into building this large display of the Main Mast of the firgate H.M.S. Pandora. I chose Pandora for the sake that the Anatomy of the SHip Pandora book has some very good comprehensive rigging information, providing not only all the spar details but also all the lengths and diameters of all the standing and running rigging and all the particulars of every block.

  5. Nice! This transitions period between steam and sail is underrepresented in the hobby and there are some great subjects. ALthough I suppose finding decent documentation is a challenge. Also, I wish more people would take the quite easy step of putting a neutral background material behind the model for the sake of photographic clarity.
