  1. Boxwood is of sure better to carve, but cherry does the job to my opinion. I used European cherry, old from a piece of old furniture and I can make very small details. Not with a chisel but with very small cutters on a dentist drill. I carved faces in boxwood and in cherry and indeed the boxwood can handle small faces but a face of a diameter of 1 cm. is doable with cherry. In this picture you see boxwood and it is indeed possible to go smaller with this. For cherry this is to small but twice the size it is to do and keep the details in the face. And to make decals or ornaments non faces but something like curls, I would say, use cherry. American cherry I can't say if it is the same but the European version is very dense. cherry: btw, the cherry I made a long time ago and was one of my first carvings.
  2. Hi there, this is cherrywood. I did it with a small chisel and a cutter on a Dremel. I would say, cherry is very well to use for carving.
  3. I'm to late to download, maybe somebody likes to share it again?
  4. Thanks Kirill, Your build I saw before, actually it was the inspiration to go so far in my build in details. Great build you did well
  5. Nice build, If you changed the name earlier I would find it before I finished mine. There are a lot of things in your log I couldn't find and I had to improvise. I will follow your build. My log you can find here https://www.modelbouwforum.nl/threads/bouwverslag-spansk-galeon-billing-boats-463.268136/
  6. Thanks for sharing this. I was searching to avoid ravelling of rope. Tried with a gas lighter, but that was a pain in the ***, need to be very carefull. This method is much better to cook the rope after turning. I use Serafil from Amann It is 0,12 mm thick (120/2) 100% polyester. This was a helpful topic. this is the rope without cooking I'm Dutch so the 350 degrees are in Fahrenheit I guess? (we use Celcius in our country, 350 degrees Celcius is hot like a flame )
