    Just wanted to pop in and say hello. I've been lurking off and on for a while, but never posted. I'm new to building wooden model ships, but not to model building in general. I have built only one wood ship in the past (Dapper Tom), but never finished, as it was partially destroyed by my step-daughter, and I gave up. Not her fault, by the way. She is Non-verbal Autistic, and really doesn't have a concept of "gentle", or "not mine". Lol. I am currently building the Mamoli CSS Alabama, and thoroughly enjoying myself. The hull is mostly complete, and I'm currently laying the copper tape on the lower half. I'm going to try the 'miracle grow' method for aging the copper, before sealing with a matte or semi-gloss clear coat. Not really going for complete historical accuracy, as this is my first full build, but I do have several books on my subject. When finished, this will be a gift to a family member who lives in Alabama that has been very good to my wife and I. I look forward to browsing the forums for tips and ideas. Steve

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
