  1. Just wanted to pop in and say hello. I've been lurking off and on for a while, but never posted. I'm new to building wooden model ships, but not to model building in general. I have built only one wood ship in the past (Dapper Tom), but never finished, as it was partially destroyed by my step-daughter, and I gave up. Not her fault, by the way. She is Non-verbal Autistic, and really doesn't have a concept of "gentle", or "not mine". Lol. I am currently building the Mamoli CSS Alabama, and thoroughly enjoying myself. The hull is mostly complete, and I'm currently laying the copper tape on the lower half. I'm going to try the 'miracle grow' method for aging the copper, before sealing with a matte or semi-gloss clear coat. Not really going for complete historical accuracy, as this is my first full build, but I do have several books on my subject. When finished, this will be a gift to a family member who lives in Alabama that has been very good to my wife and I. I look forward to browsing the forums for tips and ideas. Steve
