  1. Ya great ideas..I found that scale hammocks kinda look a wee crappy..hard to make look neat
  2. anyhoo so far my decks are like this. Can anyone think of other stuff I could add?
  3. Does anyone know as to whether the holes in pic (square ones) need to be left available or can I block them
  4. Ya so I'm gonna put in about 20 plants or my top deck skylight will look stupid, and I don't like the tiny size. I'm just going to put end walls in from kit but leave the back open to see ribs..trying to run a light to do both sides of rear wall..grooved wood to suit...me hopes
  5. WHEW,,,relief .The mast try revealed that from lower to mid mast rings there's enough wiggle to allow an 1/8"or so correction on top deck...that's real good
  6. It just occurred as I tried to move a mast ring by reaming. I'll just groove the mast for alignment on install at the lowest hole...so I'll be off 3 or so degrees from perpendicular... NO sweat I guess.... if I remember . Ya I'm probably building just more of a sailing ship, as I'm not real struck on artesianas notion of stuff like cabins and flowers. I want to keep it clean. I find some of the stuff in kit for those 2 areas kinda gorpy looking. Gone on hold as I await some decor I ordered. Will be here as soon as I get going again
  7. I had the notion (above) that a way to keep mast holes aligned was size for size drill bits. Maybe an AL expert can chime in. When lining up lower I lost top. Unless these things sailed with a 8 to 10 degree tilt on mast (which I doubt) I ended up having to re-align front and rear. Hope it works. My objective was rib alignment. Hope that flies.pic shows hole moved for rib alignment
  8. Well in the rain I closed the bulk head today. Just followed the book. No biggie to report. Top peice seems better put together in place. Seems too big to go in after
  9. Tried the real lights out today from Evan design. Costly to us canuks but some worth it. When I get further I'll show pics under. Just placed them now for fun. In my lights made from bp pen ends
  10. Hey thanks. and We like this place. Very supportive and no higher archy of your nobody till X amount of posts. I used to say to the gun forum I used to be on.. So if John M Browning signed up his first post would be of no worth... OKY DOKY...Anyways Thanks everyone,,,Swell forum
  11. My name is Doug. I'm going 61 in couple weeks. My girl is named Suzy and hence forth the name. So I was looking at a paddle wheel steamer, BUT. I thought I might only be able to do one right and finish it. So I figured tall wood ship. No offence to some however I find that when I picture built wood model I think of that....Don't know why...(Although I'll probably still do steamer ;>)....) To I got Artesiana Bounty. The Artesiana just seemed a hair above the amati. So I've been dinking away. Had to make a lot of jigs, for keel n ribs n such, .I'm coming A few guys on here I'd like to thank again...You know you you are. I've turfed some of artesianes ideas to put my own in.... Oh ya, I've touched a wood anything, but > I had a military contract to do all the precision tool work for the gyroscopes on U.S. warships. So fit n finish don't seem to allude me. Here's the scow so far
  12. Mahogany stain n semi gloss lacquer . I'll just steel wool the ends with wear where it would predominant at stair entry
  13. I did this mid deck rail. I'll photo a step by this aft or morrow. I figured .75 high would be 36" in reality. Actually, again I followed pretty much on the heels of what LyleK1 did...The 5/8 plywood give me the spacing...This part is anal to get right for first rail as it sets the stage for the other 2 sides. When there's 2 done the 3rd only needs one wee clamp. In top left of second pic you can see the rail lapp joint
  14. My plan (har har) is if I get the lights some time .... ya out of states. Canada closed for business back about 1975 I'll put em in then when mid deck is glued I'll put this snug drill bit in lowest hole and slide mast ring down for alignment
  15. Glued in place..standing barrel has one of those lights with hole threw for light
  16. This log stuff is more fun than I would think.. I'm no model builder but,I hope maybe to share something. Sorry for focus, but intent is only to show loops..I'll use slit wheel in Drexel to cut ends off. Knife cutting could loosen picks
  17. When I finished barrel keeps, I put eyes from kit at ends and holes between so as maybe to tie string threw to look like a rope tie
  18. I made these barrel keeps out of old stir stick to hold 4 barrel on too of keel. Used my Drexel to put in the 1/2 rounds
  19. The buckets are for plants.. I don't think so. Green wouldn't suit now. I'll think of something else
  20. I made this wee box with dummy candle on it. Made out of end of pen. Hoping with hole it'll kinda look like candle or lantern
