  1. Hi David

Good to hear from you.  Here are a few photos.  As you will see I tried to follow your method of making an angled cut to secure the strops. I think its working well so I am grateful to you for that idea.

No more trips to the Caribbean are planned for me - in fact my working week has been cut from 3 to 2 days so I have even more build time.  That being said I think the chainplates / gunport lids stage is not going to get finished until August at my current rate of progress - too much sport on TV this time of year is causing a distraction !!

    Cheers for now

  2. Hi Lawrence

Thank you for your comments.  I have been looking at your log - looks like you are making great progress - I would be surprised if you are as much as a year behind me.

I'm currently working on chainplates, gun barrels and gunport lids.  Its all quite repetitive so I've not been posting pictures lately - its good fun though.

I shall be following your build - keep up the good work !

    All the best

  3. Hi Kevin

Back to the discussion about where boats could be stowed, according to the Goodwin book there were two 25ft cutters and it looks like these were always stowed off the poop as in the model you highlighted.  Then the four other boats (launch, barge, pinnace and 18ft cutter) were stowed on the skid beams.  If I'm reading the instructions correctly, the Jotika Victory does not come with the two 25ft cutters so there are no boats shown to be stowed at the poop.

    Cheers

  4. Hi Jerry

Looks like you're off to a great start.

Like you I did not use a primer and I used good quality scissors to cut the tiles and did not have any major problems.  The only difficulty I had was due to prolonged exposure to superglue.  It seems, however, that most people don't have a problem with it provided the ventelation is good and they take a lot of breaks etc. etc.

I didn't find coppering to be the most exciting part of the build but it was perhaps the most rewarding when it was finished.

Keep up the good work !

  5. Hi Guys - Thanks - I think the photo might be flattering the look of my buckets. No doubt about it, they are very tricky. Cutting down from 21 to 15 sounds like a good idea as you will be able to get between them to rig the handles.

Most builders seem to leave the poop after attaching the hammock nets - I think that's what I'm going to do.

As for the boats - I agree it is a shame to position them where they cover up the deck below.  Kevin has posted a picture of another model which shows a boat hanging off the poop.  Looks rather good.  You could still have 1-2 boats on the main deck and it wouldn't obscure so much of the gun deck.  Another alternative that you see sometimes is for the boats to be deployed off the stern.

    Lots to think about !

    Cheers
