  1. For the last week or so I've been working on the poop ladders, fire buckets and hammock netting.  The poop ladders were OK but strangely they look skewed in the pictures...The fire buckets were a pain - they don't really look very good but are largely overshadowed by the hammock netting.

Now I intend to finish the netting on the poop, the rudder, the outer hull decoration, chain plates before starting on the gun port lids.

I notice from the instructions that in 1805 the Victory had a "barricade" on the poop deck.  It looks a bit ugly to me (although I'm sure it provided welcome protection at Trafalgar) and from reviewing other builds I see most have not put this in place.  I'm probably not going to have a barricade but was curious as to whether anyone else did intend to add one to their model...

  2. Hi Derek

You've done a great job on those lids - I'm getting close to starting mine.  Spent two solid days on those buckets - probably 16 hours - then I redid them as I found I couldn't do the handles with them stuck in place.  I've ended up with a very average result - but I'm not going to attempt them again.

I feel there is probably a method of doing them right but I don't know what it is....

I'll post some pictures over the w/e.

    Good luck with your buckets

    Cheers

  3. Thanks very much guys.

David - I was intending to cover the lockers with material. I bought some tissue-like stuff which was referred to in Kevin's log about making sails (can't remember what its called). Then I was going to cover one completely and have the other one turned up a little showing the flags underneath so I should only need the internal part for one locker.  That's the plan anyway - if it doesn't look very good I'll phone Jotika.  Good luck with your lids - I'm certainly not looking forward to those !

    Cheers

  4. Over the last few days I've finished the quarter galleries including a shelf along the stern.  I did not put the lowest of the copper profile around the quarter gallery - it just looked too big so I used a strip of wire instead.  I don't really understand how the kit designers expected the stern profiles to be done according to their instructions.  For me it was a case of improvising and experimenting.

So that's the stern finished for the time being.  Next I made up the bulwarks and capping rails for the poop deck.  I now have the flag lockers to do although I am missing the sheet to make up the internal part for one of them (I think Derek had the same problem).  Fortunately I was going to cover one of the lockers in canvass anyway so no delays while I wait for the part.

    Some pics...

  5. You're right, thinking about it - I wouldn't have to take the whole stern off.  I think I'm going to finish off the port side and see whether I can make a decent job of it with paint, sandpaper and filler.  If it doesn't work I'll try Jotika and strip down the patterns. If they won't replace them I think I could make some up without too much difficulty

I should be able to post some pictures later today and go from there.

    Cheers
