  1. Hi David No, still here in the background. The pictures seem OK now. Having an extended break as I was suffering a great deal from CA allergy. I'm going to have another attempt soon with new facemask filters. All the best Yon
  2. The problem seems to be sorted - maybe it was because I hadn't logged on for so long. I have suspended my build for the time being as my allergy to CA has taken all the fun out of it (and was rather painful). I realise that the allergy won't go away but I fully intend to get back to it using a full facemask once I've plucked up the courage. Good luck to everyone with their builds. Best Yon
  3. Hi Lawrence Wishing you a Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year !! I intend to restart my build on new years day so expect to update my log later in January - fingers crossed, it will be completed in 2014..... Kind regards Yon
  4. Hi Jerry I am very glad that you found my log useful ! I'm looking forward to getting back to my build. Best wishes for Christmas and a happy new year ! Cheers Yon
  5. Thanks Lawrence and David I hope you and all the other Victory builders have a great Christmas and I'll be in touch early in the new year. best wishes Yon
  6. Hi Lawrence Thanks for your comment ! After 2 years of building I am having a bit of a break. I did this before and found that when I get back to it I am much more enthusiastic. I was prompted after actually dreaming about rigging gun port lids ! I'll be back in the new year. In the meantime keep up the good work ! Cheers Yon
  7. Hi Derek Just catching up on everyone's logs. You've made excellent progress - good stuff. Cheers Yon
  8. Hi David Very impressive. The pictures illustrate very well how much work you have put in - well done ! All the best Yon
  9. Hi Lawrence Many thanks for your comment. I attached the cat heads a while ago. I have posted pictures on the first page of this log, post number 10. I have been following your build with great interest - its really coming on well. Cheers Yon
  10. Hi Sjors With summer, and the distractions that brings, coming to an end, I am hoping my next update will not be so long in coming ! Cheers Yon
  11. Its been a while since my last posting due to a number of factors. Progress has been slow on the chainplates and gunport lids so there really has not been much to show. My computer packed up, the replacement was "lost" in the post and when I finally had one delivered I had to work out how to do photos on windows 8. I also lost some time recovering from CA exposure. Anyway, it seems that my target to get the chainplates and gunports finished by the end of August has proved to be too ambitious. In fact I've only managed the port side so far. Here are some pictures :- Cheers Yon
  12. I'll be following you all the way I've been buried deep in chainplates and port lids. As you know its quite repetitive work so not much progress to post by way of updates ! Cheers Yon
  13. Hi David All looks very smart - good luck with the rigging. I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on. Cheers Yon
  14. Thanks Len - I have heard that too. In this case the thread is not being used to hold up the lids - its just made to look as if it is, As there is no tension on the threads I think it will be ok. I wasn't able to make it work with PVA. It does change the appearance of the thread though (and not for the better) so I would agree that its not an ideal solution. Regards Yon
  15. Hi Guys Thanks for the comments - hopefully this approach will prove helpful. Cheers Yon
  16. Derek - How about using PVA instead of CA ? It might be easier to avoid getting the clamp stuck .
  17. Well, if you put it that way I have to agree you have a point although I am doing the channels and chainplates as I go along !
  18. Hi David Thanks very much - only 58 left by my last count. My August deadline's looking a little optimistic now ! Cheers Yon
  19. I thought I would expand on how I am rigging the gunport lids after a discussion with David (Shipyard sid) as I think it is a bit different but seems to work OK for me. The tricky part is ensuring that the thread is tight which means it must be attached at the right angle to the lid. First I attach the thread to the rings using Gil Middleton's needle method Then I stretch the thread ensuring that it is at the correct angle to the lid and apply CA to the thread I then trim the thread to size and use the lid to locate the holes in the hull 6mm above the lid Then I insert the thread and fix the lid with CA I'm sure other methods produce as good or better results but after experimenting I think this works the best for me. Yon
  20. I've gone with the lids open - Though I think that a closed position might be a nice variation. I've found the most challenging aspect is keeping the rigging tight so I stiffen them up with CA first. I think its a case of working out which method suits the indivicual builder and then over time you get better at it so by the time you've finished you're really good at it !
