    Red below the waterline. Put semi Poly on the deck then sanded most of it off.

    These chafing planks were supposed to be 1/32” x 3/32”. Oops.

    Almost got the transom on straight. Followed the instructions advice to use medium CA and while it speeds up the build nicely, it kills me not to be able to fix mistakes. Cabin sides are not straight either. And I used the wrong strips (too big) for the chafing planks alongside the keel.

    My daughters got me the kit for Father’s Day, and like most projects I immediately set out to over-engineer it. First wood (ship) kit, made a few mistakes along the way. I am at sails and rigging now but posting the backlog of build photos. Dan

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
