  1. The photos really bring out the fact I need to do some dusting on my model - but the Port Lids are all installed!
  2. I was busy working on Gun Port lids, when the little people started whispering of mutiny if the head wasn't completed SOON!
  3. It's funny how if you don't show AI what the back side of something looks like, then it just starts making up whimsical stuff... But as they say, garbage in, garbage out...
  4. Being Devil's Advocate here - at what point do we quit modeling altogether and just make scale 3D prints of ships/models?
  5. I looked closer at my set of Smithsonian plans and a hole above the gun port is clearly shown with a cleat on the inner bulwark to belay the line. In my build, there is even less room below the rail. I'm curious how pulling that line straight back would open or even hold open a port, but will build it as shown in the plan...
  6. If it were mine, I'd get it somewhere warm and wait. Anything you do while it is sticky would likely be just more of a mess.
  7. With Gun Port lids such as these, do you all think the lines would have just gone over the rail and belay inside? There is no room to drill a hole above the port lids, and I don't think the geometry would hold the port up either...
  8. I'm just starting to build the masts on my Prince. Thanks so much for sharing your work - she came out great!
  9. I purchased and started this model many years ago. It is my first wood model, and I put it away as I didn't have the time while working. Retired now and started working on her again. I love the looks of the Prince and also her amazing history. The photos show where I am, and I am starting to build the masts and bow sprit now. Any comments appreciated - I have already learned so much from viewing the works of others on this site. Thanks, Keith
  10. Yes - Gunport lids. Looks like they are hinged according to the plan shown. OK - I'll be busy with those for a while. Keith
  11. Thank you. Doing this next time!
  12. I read somewhere (of course I can't remember where) that flush deck ships like the Prince wouldn't have had porthole lids. They are included in the Model Shipways directions but it I'd be happy to know that is correct not to have them! This is my first wood ship model and I wouldn't have got this far without this great group! Especially posts from Bob's (Rafine) build blog. Thanks all ~ Keith
  13. Seems like they would always be in the way. I wonder if they were only hooked up when they were needed?
  14. I'm interested in the tackle that were used to pull the cannon back inboard? They would be needed to initially load the cannon. They wouldn't need to be used after firing the cannon correct? The cannon recoil would take care of that? I'm wondering if the tackle was not usually attached, but only hooked up when needed?
  15. There is some great information here about the mast rakes. How did you establish the rake of the Bowsprit?
  16. Inspiring work! I am building the PDN as well. You are far enough ahead of me (I sail in the Summer, model in the Winter) that you are answering question for me before I realized I had them... Keith
  17. My kit came with brass carronades and wheeled carriages. I see on this forum that many are replacing these with carrondades on slides? But my search today yielded some images of carronades on wheeled carriages, so I believe they were historically correct as well. Does anyone know which was correct on the PDN? Thanks, Keith
