easy question:  new @ rigging. Do you have to treat thread with anything before actual work begins. Use to be beeswax but not hearing if this still applies

Jim, people did (still do?) treat thread with beeswax as a way of removing the fluff that's apparent of certain threads. The traditional model rigging thread of linen is a good example.  The only problem with using beeswax is that it can be a magnet for dust, but this shouldn't be a problem if the model is kept in a case.  If you're using modern synthetic threads they probably won't have any fluff on them, but some of them have an awful lot of stretch in them, so it's a good idea to hang them up with a weight on them for a while to get the stretch out.

Hey John!

I still use bees wax. Not only does it get rid of the fuzz, but also gives the line a little body which helps thread it through the block.

BTW, I think my wax dates back to 1975. A great bargain!
