They appear to be something on the transoms but only the two above the deck. This leads me to view the two structures in question as projections of the arms of those two transoms. Lower down, what and where those arms are does not affect anything important to any officers. The diagonal line that goes from the wing transom up to the left(paralleling the counter timber) was throwing me off. I'm not sure what that would be either.
