Arvia by Dave Wood - 1:500 - P&O Cruise Ship

Recommended Posts

Backloaded build log.

17/7/23

P&O Cruises Arvia progressing well - fairly easy as it's pretty similar to Iona.   Fusion 360 model is actually now of both ships - with some components and bodies needing to be switched off and on to switch between the two ships.

Printed up to Deck 15 in Bambu Lab Sponsored Filament - and design changes for Deck16-19 now made - and ready to start making printable and printing over the next few days.

Most complicated part was high ropes and crazy golf etc.

Some Fusion 360 Renders

Also did a fair bit of work on Fusion 360 export macros - rather than exporting 100s of Bodies that need to be coloured in Bambu Studio, new version of macro only outputs one body per colour per section of the ship (by going through the fairly slow process of hiding / showing / exporting the separate groups of bodies).  Will publish new macro on Github at some point.

Quite a few changes to design required to incorporate wiring for LED lighting.

Lessons learned.

1. Don't leave floors too thin when adding in cable runs - otherwise reprints will be required

2. Making the internals of the ship more hollow would make it much easier to add things like lighting for other future models.

3. Doing cable runs below decks is easier to manage than above - as wires can be taped in place before decks are bolted down

4. Allow inter deck holes to be big enough to accommodate shrink wrapped extensions to smaller wires

5. Make designs for LED holders more generic - to allow for changes to lights - and add ons such as individually addressable LEDs.

6. Consider having the collection point for the wiring at the bottom rather than near the top - so it is easier to handle wiring without having to worry about hiding it.

7. Check that cable routes are efficient and won't result in the need for extensions.

7. Consider adding wireless inter deck wiring interconnects like these in future designs - to make putting the model together, taking it apart and maintenance.   Screenshot2023-08-07at06_45_35.png.cbbe473d12add4105b13b7248a7939e2.png
