Hi Frank,

can you give slightly more info?

(pic of the kit perhaps).

for a idea on ships colours aroun 1700 try googling ‘artitec texel’, or check the buildlog here of a card-model of the ‘zeven provincien’.

basically: gold (yellow ochre), green, red, and nothing ‘over the top’

It is 1/125 scale.  I am putting prime on now.  The Gouda was built around 1636.

"

She was constructed when Dutch shipbuilding was the model for its naval rivals, a model lasting 200 years.

This Man-O-War was a two-decker, the preferred Dutch construction type, because it gave their ships more speed and maneuverability. Her lighter construction, however, had a drawback when it came to withstanding close in fire. (The French and English preferred sturdier three deck ships for this reason.)

Like all Dutch Man-O-Wars, the Gouda had a red lion figure head and lanterns along her sides and decks. This was different from English and French ship construction which were always covered with elaborate ornamentation." - unknown

Actually, as far as known, there was only one man o war called Gouda (more precise ‘Stad Gouda’), build in 1665, in Amsterdam. Willem van de Velde made a drawing of her.

two-decked frigate.
Lanterns are always a bit of a gamble: the large ships had up to five, smaller ones had less. And to increase the fun: they were removable :) . Three seems a bit overcrowded for a ship of this size. And although not as elaborate as the English, it had a fair bit of scrollwork going on at the stern (as well as a nice painting of Gouda)

As to rigging: Lindberg could have done a better job :  the main sail on the bowsprit is missing :)

I believe this would of been the Pyro kit originally. I had this once and actually throw it away. Box art was good for colours though so may be worth searching for images of that.
