Question about Swift pilot boat stem piece

I am getting ahead of myself, but I don’t know what to do about this gap. Do I trim the piece or build up the hull?

It looks to me like you don't have the stem seated all the way back. The contours of the stem and longitudinal profile should come together without a gap.

I’m a noobie, so I don’t really understand your reply, but I think you restated my question.  I know it I supposed to fit, but it doesn’t.

Could you use a divider with a pencil on the wood and pointer on model to trace the curve of the bow to the wood, then cutout and see how close you come to fitting.

Not quite sure what piece is fitting to where. I’d get the hull shaped well with sanding and filler and then see about getting this piece to fit right - that could mean reshaping this piece. It’s often that pieces don’t fit quite right and you need to do various about of cutting, reshaping, using fillet, resanding, or even completely recreating a piece for another piece of wood. You’re lucky or very skilled if pieces fit as if they’re Lego pieces. I’ve usually had to bend, sand, reshape pieces.
