Hello MSW. I am finally back to building model ships after a 7 months absence due to a 9600 piece puzzle build and designing 24 table centerpieces for my daughter’s upcoming wedding in May.

I started building the French ship La Couronne of 1635. I found some drawings on the internet and transposed them into a CAD program (SolidWorks) which allowed me to loft up some bulkheads and so now the journey begins.

Below are the summer/fall projects I mentioned as well as the beginning of my build. It’s good to be back making ship modeling sawdust again. 😂😁

The puzzle is framed to look like you are looking out of a stern galley window at the on going battle. IMG_3974.thumb.jpeg.45a8d6d10b84996d478ec82917710aba.jpeg

Here is one of the 24 the centerpieces.

And finally the good stuff. 😁. The finished model should end up being about 28 inches long so I need to start planning a space to put it. It should be ready in a couple of years …. Or more. 😂

Starting to cut out the bulkheads. I printed the cad drawings and then cut the bulkhead profiles out to be used as cutting templates. I used rubber cement to glue them to 1/4” plywood then cut them out with a bandsaw and sanded the edges a bit.

Using the surfacing feature in the CAD software i was able to generate fairing lines on the front sides of the bulkheads which can be easily seen on the first bulkhead (#20). In a petfect world I could fair the bulkhead to the line and everything will fall into place. 🤪😂 Yeah right, that happens all the time.  I will use these lines to “rough” fair before assembling. Right now they are just dry fit.

there are 21 bulkheads in total that are 1.020” apart so I am not even half way there yet. But then again, it’s all about the journey. 😁
