Hey, does anyone use a matt finish spray over a varnish to remove the gloss/shine and make dull?

Any ideas about how to use it properly and how it could go wrong etc.

Kits owned: Mamoli Royal Louis, Mamoli Friesland, Mamoli HMS Victory 1:90, Occre Santisima Trinidad, Constructo HMS Prince

I have used a matt varning and airbrused it over gloss to take abway the shine works fine and only needs a very light coat. I did this on my Arizona turrets over the red which just didnt look right in gloss.

I've used 'dullcoat' (acrylic flat lacquer) over WOP as well as acrylic paint to bring down the shine.  I use Model Master from Testors and brush it on.  I understand it's also available in an aerosol but I haven't tried that.
