How do you build this. I am building the Pandora using AOTS book, and this subject is not mentioned at all. just some smal images.The kits I have done so far, and the scratch as well, has been easy as they was suported by plans/drawings. But in this case I am lost. Wat is the "link" made of, is it a metal plate or chain,wire or rope. The upper suport seems to be some "knee" made of wood.

 

Is there a way to glue this to the hull and then it can be trusted when rigging is to be done.

The links below the deadeyes are made of metal rod and straps. It appears the deadeyes are stroped with metal rods that then attach to the metal straps which are bolted or nailed to the hull though the bottom holes.  I agree the upper supports or gussets are additional wood supports. Note, the drawing shows the channel angled down toward the water to show depth and width of the plank, but in actual installation, it should be horizontal or only seen on edge in that side view. You could probably estimate the width of the channel, or it may appear in another view where you can measure it.

P.S. The 2 links between the deadeye and the 2-hole strap are the same, the one above is just rotated like a chain link, so is seen on edge.

You cant go to far wrong with Daffi methods, I have long admired his work and dedication.

As far as gluing in the channels many builder here use brass or wood pins with 5 minute epoxy.

Bjoern, I know that you used the image as an example, but let me also point out that the shrouds that tie in with the deadeyes (per your picture) should line up with the top of the mast. In other words, if you connect a pencil line with all the shrouds they should come close to one point.

So, don't go too closely with the drawing you saw. This is one of many published by Lennarth Petersson, 'Rigging Period Ship Models'.

 

I am afraid that it shows the wrong angles of the shrouds to the right. If you go to the next page, it might be clearer.

The plank you are referring to is called a channel. It is the board that is on the outside of the ship to which all of these 'deadeyes' and shrouds are tied to. Again refer to more ship details here or other books.
