This model diorama is based on the Vanguard HMS Alert Cutter kit. The kit is excellent, however I did modify components and added sails and their required running rigging. I chose to place the model in Caribbean waters making headway from the Leeward islands. I imagined the French privateering crew on their way to raid English shipments and plantations on the U.K.'s "sugar islands." I kept the diorama's base in a neutral color to keep the focus on the setting.

Thanks! I agree. I originally was interested in model ship building because I was interested in galleons and then 18th C warships, but I have found that I really like small craft. It's especially fun thinking that this is something you might realistically be able to sail.

first time seeing a carronade model, sure you've made all items from scrap because i think there are no kits from manufacturers. Simply awesome!
