Here's my model of Cable Lay Vessel Living Stone. She's used to lay cables in offshore windmill farms. She can do export cables between the farm's transformer station as well as inter-array cables between the windmills as well as the between the windmills and transformer station.
It's my first attempt to go for something larger than a model itself. I wanted to show more of the purpose of the vessel. The dio represents a 2nd-end-pull-in, where one end of the cable is attached to a windmill and the vessel is now laying the 2nd end. This means the vessel is stopped next to the 2nd windmill, the exact length of the cable is determined and the cable is then cut to length. After this is done, the cable is pulled into the windmill base while the CLV slowly lowers the white quadrant, this gives the cable extra length while it is pulled in. As a last step, the quadrant is flipped over to release the cable. Eventually it forms a straight line with little to no excess length on the seafloor.
The sea surface didn't really come out the way I imagined. At first I wanted a rather green brownish appearance, typical for the North Sea, but noticed on pictures that the surface looks rather dark blue when seen from the air. I recreated that colour succesfully, but eventually noticed that the lost transparancy and dark colour takes away too much light below the surface. If I'd do something like this again, I assume I'd leave part of the surface uncovered to give more light and emphasis on the part below the water level.
