Hello and thanks for your comments and likes today I build the tiller for the rudder. After turning most of the handle, I had to glue it to a peace of wood. My fingers are too thick to hold it. It's 21 mm long, and the handle after the head has 1 mm Ø. I carved mostly with my small V cutter and my carving knife. Using also small files. And that is the result This is a little faking, because the tiller is too short to go through the slot 😐 But you would't see it 😇 And now in action, but not fast -

Hello, after I build the last days toggles in all variations, I build today the rudder. Tomorrow I will start then with the tiller. -

Hello, today I build the two blocks, a one and a two sheave, for the halyard and two of the shroud pins. The thicker part of them is still a little green, so the rest has to wait a little longer. -

Thank you Mike, the look at the mast step, is mostly hidden by the mast fish. The flat part of it, belonged to the mast fish. It is in reality one pice of wood, 1 X 5 m oak! So also without decking, you would't see much more of it. -

Hello JJ, Tiger has vacation till the Gogstad ship is ready. I don't thought that it takes so long to build this little ship. But now I have to bring it to an end, otherwise I have two unready ships here 😏 -

Hello, just to give you a sign of life, I'm currently building blocks and cleats. Today, new yarn has finally arrived, so the rope production will soon also begin. -

Hello, and thank you for your comments and likes today I started with an experiment to create the shroud pins. With some branches from my boxtree. Let's see what's going to be. The arrow shows one of the Gokstad ship in the scale, it is 13mm long! -

Hello, it is done, the deck is finished. That was no easy job, at least in the stern and stem. I'm waiting now for the second oiling, and build in that time may be the rudder, some cleats or toggles. And that is all you could see from the interior. Just some frames and parts of the mast step. But I have the pictures. -

Hello, and thank you all for your comments and likes today I started with the deck. Now with the first oiling. The toggle is for the halyard, fastened to the frame below. So I started also with rigging. 😊 -

Keith, not all. At the SB side I would left the deck right to the mast fish open. 😊 -

Hello, After a short break, we continue now. The last two stands are now ready. Since nothing is straight here, they got me really busy. But it's done now. Next is the deck to be made. That means, cutting wood first. -

Hello Cisko, as you can see in the picture, the stand is made of 3 parts. I haven't found more parts in the trash bin anymore. In this case, the stand itself must first be dressed. That's the difficult part. Everything else will explain itself, hopefully. -
As I have seen, people don't need to take off their shoes anymore when they come to the ship 😄

Hello, the first stand (?) is installed. This is the fourth version of it. 😟 I worked here after a drawing from Frederik Johannessen, he reconstructed the ship. And at least the whole ship -

Hello and thank you for your kind comments and likes today I finished the knees. That was a nerve-consuming process. But now it's done. The next not so easy work would be the stand, standing in front of the mast. -

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
