  1. Hi, The decks are just about done and I’ve started painting the hull. Walter
  2. Hi, The planking is on the home stretch and I’ve started the deck. Walter
  3. Hi, Thank you for all the likes. The planking has moved above the wale. I’ve started adding the deck beams. Also the first cannon has been built. Walter
  4. Hi, Thank you for all the likes. It’s been a week of planking. Walter
  5. Thank you Rudolf. I'm using bamboo, which I first split the plane into planks. Walter
  6. Hi, The filler frames have been added to the bow and the stern is well underway. Walter
  7. Hi, I would like to thank everyone for all the likes. I have a few more filler frames to add to the bow and my focus is now shifting to the stern. Walter
  8. Hi, I’ve started building the frames. Two frame clamps were assembled and some test fitting done. Walter
  9. Hi, I would like to thank everybody for their likes and comments. The keel has been assembled and it’s to start the frames. Walter
  10. Thank you everyone for all the likes. Mark, I don't know if it was a ship kit, but it's fun to imagine what these plans were used for. John, I'll see how this method works out. On the plus side the magnets hold the parts nicely and I can draw on the note board with erasable markers. On the negative side the magnets love metal tools. But it:s fun to experiment. Walter
  11. Hi, This little ship is based on a NMM plan for a “Unnamed 56ft single-masted Sloops (Circa 1776)” (Publisher Code J0520, Object ID ZAZ6496-8). Notes about the plans include “Plan showing the body plan, sheer lines with inboard detail, longitudinal half-breadth, upper deck, and fore & aft platforms for building two 56ft single-masted Armed Sloops on Lake Champlain. Signed John Williams [surveyor of the Navy, 1765-1784]. Includes a table of the Mast and Yard dimensions. It has been presumed in the past that this plan is part of a design set (see ZAZ6496-8). The plans were imported into a CAD program and scaled. A rough set of modeling plans were created and printed. As an experiment this ship will be built on a Magnetic Note Board purchased at a local supermarket and magnets from Home Depot. Walter
  12. Bensid54, As well as floating between sandbars on the bay I also want to float around Marquis Creek. Marquis Creek is like a pond. It empties into the bay and only on flood tides gets a shot of salt water. I enjoy following your projects. Have you considered going FPV? Imagine piloting the Bireme through the eyes of the captain or seeing what the boatman sees. I sometimes wonder what I could do with a micro rc helicopter receiver (the one's with the 3 axis gyros) in a boat or ship. What could it do with an unstable vessel. I really like your innovative projects, Walter
  13. Thank you everyone for all the likes. Mark ,I'm going to trying to keep the ballast inside. I've experimented with two magnets clipped to the center board and that seemed promising. If the inside doesn't work out, I'll try to work something out with magnets which are easily removable for display.. Bensid54, No it's not RC. Early on I considered making it RC but at this point I'm still learning about balancing and just getting it to sail. Also Me, RC, and water don't mix. This was borne out a few weeks ago when I lost control of a quad, which took of towards Staten Island. Some how I got it back to my side of the bay and dumped it inverted literally at the waters edge; Walter
  14. Hi, Today was sea trial number 1 and it was quite an adventure. Everything was looking good for getting out for the low tide turn but I decided to test it one more time in the sink. That’s when I found out the sails and mast had really changed the balance. That led to loading up the hull with fishing sinkers for ballast. By time I made it out I missed the tide, it had come in too much and the sandbars were gone and the wind had gotten much stronger. Not letting common sense get in the way and wait for a better day I headed off to one of the local tidal creeks, Whale Creek. Got a little floating in until I managed to tip and sink. Now I’ll get the ballast set up better, and weather and time permitting it’s off to the bay for a video and pictures. Walter
  15. Bensid54, thank you. Mark, thank you. Since this sloop floats, I will be sailing it between some sandbar on Raritan Bay during low tide on a calm day for it's sea trials. Elijah, thank you. Pictures to follow. And thanks everyone for all the likes. Walter
  16. I hope you get a chance to make a video or get some pictures of the great duck battle. It's looking really good. Walter
  17. Thank you Bob. The end is in sight and time to start planning my next build. Walter
  18. Hi, The rigging is moving along. I’m beginning to plan the sails. Thank you everyone for all the likes. Walter
