Wow! This has got to be the nicest looking victory model I've seen yet...actually just nicest model, full stop lol. So neat and beautiful I have been looking at this kit very possibly for my next model if I'm not being too overconfident ...if I do I'll certainly be looking back on this beautiful build log- 191 replies

Well I am a little bit over due for an update...I am currently a bit further along than what the pictures show but I thought I would post tonight what pictures I do have. So far I have sheathed the transom and the under transom blocks. Sheathed another layer for the bulwarks (exterior). I planked down to (please forgive if I am wrong with any of my ship terminology). What I understand to be the wales. I have found this to be slightly frustrating. Mamoli did not supply enough wood for them. So I spent a bit of time tracking down a good model timber supplier that I could order the needed walnut from. I eventually succeeded in this and I was able to continue with my build, as you can see in the pictures however some of the walnut is much darker than the rest of the wood in the wales. I was lucky this time because I was planning on painting them black anyway. So far I have used erasers padded board and rubber bands to dry the wet planks into what I understand to be an edge bended shape. It seems to be working quite well so far hopefully I'll be able to avoid drop planks in the upper bands at least. I decided to make an accounting of the planks I had left, something that I now realize I should of done from the start

Well thank you all for your quick replies and expertise. Your comments have all been most helpful. I think I'm leaning towards the single edge razor and the steel wool finish. It seems to be popular ...Now just to find and learn about types of sealant and stain.

Hello fellow modelers. I believe I am aproaching the end of my second planking on my mamoli bounty kit. In the instructions it says to "scrape the hull with a sharp piece of glass" . This sounds unusual to me but I'm eager to try it if it is indeed better than sanding the second layer. My question is two fold. Do any of you talented builders find scraping the hull gives a good finish? And if you do, is there anywhere short of smashing a piece of glas I could buy/order a scraping tool?

This is my progress so far. I have just about finished the first layer of planking on my bounty. I just have a few wedges to add into the stern and then I will give it a sand. I am moderately satisfied with the first planking. There are a few minor bumps along the hull that I'm not sure how they got there but I'm hoping that a good sanding job along with a bit of wood filler will create a good surface for my second planking.

Hi guys. Well this is my first build log. I've always been a lover of history and especially the age of sail. One day the idea dawned on me that I could stoke my imagination and get a lot of enjoyment out building models of these beautiful vessels. That led me to start researching a good kit for me to get started on. I chose the bounty by mamoli because it rated at intermediate to beginner, has a fascinating history and hopefully will be a great learning curve and stepping stone towards working on bigger first rate models in the future. I don't know anyone in person who also has worked on model sail ships, so finding the cofidence to proceed with the various steps in my build so far has been nerve wrecking without being able to talk to someone about what I'm doing or getting critiqued on my progress. I suppose at this stage I should mention that I am about 10 weeks into my build. And have been inspired by some of the nice build logs on here to create my own. Up until now I haven't taken many photos at all. But that will change. I would greatly appreciate anyone's constructive criticisms or helpful tips for my model. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist and look forward to being able to learn as much as possible so I can my Bounty as close to perfection that my abilities will allow.
