I was quite a challenge to make carved elements. Hornbeck is quite difficult to cut,it's quite strong and fragile , and the scale is a bit to small for me. The assembling is still to come and the fitting in place. -

The result of the grinding is not yet very presentable. Beauty will appear only after coating with oil. I slightly moistened the hull to show the pins. It looks like this. -

Thank you my dear Friends! I have started to work on the nailing of the hull , the work will take a lot of time and is quite monotonous. -

I tried to cover it with oil. But the oil had highlighted some defects of the wood. I will probably have to replace some elements. -

I have made a galley stove. I had to redo it again, because of the failure on blackening stage. The first option had to be rejected. The technology is simple, all the details are soldered. -

I have made protective grilles for the skylights. For now I just made a fitting before blackening. Or maybe it's better not to blacken ? -

Dear Mark I was considering the blackening, but in this case I would get black color. -

Greetings, dear colleagues. I have made anchor closures. The absence of a lathe makes me look for other manufacturing options. First I made tubes of various sizes. Then I soldered a wire belt. I made one version of brass. I tried it looks nice, but not authentic, on the ships they were made out of lead. I'll try another version of iron so it's closer in color. Then I'll choose between the two. -

I made two options for windows rats - cameras on the aft shells. I haven't yet decided what color I will choose for them. -

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
