canoe21 reacted to Jerry in BLUENOSE By Jerry - Model Shipways - Scale 1:64
Happy New Year, Don and thank you for your visit to my log.
We are patiently waiting for the arrival of the display case for Bluenose but we probably won't see it until February. The fabricator always takes his sweet time but it's worth it as he is very competitive and his workmanship is the best.
So in the meantime, Bluenose has become a room divider sitting above the kitchen sink giving us a seascape as we gaze into the living room. There is a bit of danger exisiting since she could get sprayed by the faucet but we're on guard for that occurrence. The picture speaks for itself.
Best,
Jerry
P.S. If one looks carefully Victory and Bounty can be seen in the room.

canoe21 reacted to captainbob in Two Edwardian-type launches by captainbob - FINISHED - 1:48 - SMALL
HI all,
I decided to put a set of clerestory (is that what they are called on a boat?) windows on top of the saloon. 44 little pieces of wood later . . . and here’s what it looks like.

Yes, Michael. When I showed some of the pictures to the wife she said it gave her the feeling that she wanted to get on one. Ah, would be nice to have one at my dock. Would be nice to have a dock. Would be nice to have water to put a dock. Ah well.

Thanks so much Dave. Once stove is done I need to build a windlass, which will be a first for me. I think I am looking forward to this

Hello all just a small update, Thanks to all for stopping in, for your likes and great comments.
I finally got the courage up to cut all the holes in the deck and I must say all went good, and I also finished up my ships wheel.
Not much to be said the pictures say it all. the cuts were made with a 1 mm end mill bit then finished with a file.
The very first picture shows the outline for the aft hatch which I spent considerable time measuring, marking and double checking..............even though it was perfectly square and centred I had to erase all of it as this is the bow . Things got better after this, glad I didn't start to cut. The deck has one coat of poly now on it and will get two or three more
Enjoy
All deck furniture and masts are just sitting in their places, nothing is permanently fixed yet.
Have a Good Evening

canoe21 reacted to michael mott in Albertic by michael mott - FINISHED - Scale 1:100 - RESTORATION - Bassett-Lowke Model
I was recently commissioned to restore to "Original Condition" A 1:100 model of the steamship Albertic. The model was knocked over and sustained considerable damage to the port side lifeboat deck Funnels and railings along with vents and all sorts of lines and wire stays.
I have made extensive photographs of the condition as I received it, and have begun recording the removal of the damaged parts that were still attached, A few surprises that were not evident when I viewed it at the clients premises have come to light.
I cobbled together a quick trolley so that I can move the model around, I will make a lightweight dust cover to keep the dust off the model.
I will no doubt be calling on the expertise of the membership for advice as I move forward.
As tragic as the damage is I am hoping that this will be a good experience and that I rise to the occasion with a smile as things become repaired.
here are a few pictures to show the extent of my task.
Builders Name plate
Port side sustained the most damage
Starboard side suffered mostly inertial damage
The funnels took a beating because they are heavy and brass
A lot of loose parts were piled on the deck in front of the bridge
The stern end of the port lifeboat deck is badly bent and twisted
The stairs didn't fair too well either
Below the port lifeboat deck is the most damage on the hull I am really hoping that this area can be reworked without having to repaint the entire side, we will see?
A box of the loose pieces now lifted off the ship
Ouch
This will keep me busy over the next couple of three months. As I was removing all the big loose parts I was noticing how much of the fine lines and wire cables have also been damaged. many of the parts were attached with micro brass pins, all the lifeboat davits for instance.

Thank you fellows for your kind comments and to those who clicked the like button.
Yup, life gets in the way of pleasure but the unpleasant parts will ease off some. Still busy with domestic chores, garden mostly and haven't even touched my neighbor's chair for a few weeks.
Well, in between all the busy stuff I have been able to finish another sketch of a lion head. It's still not quite right but I'll keep massaging it some more. Right now he looks like he's yawning.
I have another one started and hopefully he looks acceptable to ise as a model. then i need to draw one up in profile, which is more important for the carving.
Here is pic, just so all yuns know I'm still alive a kicking
Cheers,

A very clear "sea" Igor. You shouldn't be called IgorSky, but IgorSea. Your waves are coming out very good. Looks very promising!!

After the final drying silicone I started to imitate "waves" on the "water". Material - transparent acrylic gel. At the bank, he is white, but after drying it becomes transparent. What you can see in the photo was done in a couple of days and then it dried up a few days.

Hi everuones!
After another day, I filled and a third layer, reaching almost to the waterline.
Of course, the final conclusions it is too early to do, but so far that this material gives the optimistic expectations regarding its use for the project "The Old Man and the Sea." Just I think of the pigment should be added even less.

On next day I put in the bottle with the dried of the first layer "water" the underwater part of the hull, and propped her with the pieces of the dried silicone to align. Then I poured another thin layer of silicone. Tweezers placed to the hull is for fixing it at the time of drying of "water."

A small digression ...
I have sharpened the axis of the propeller using the Proxxon-drill. The small piece of the blank was in the patron and I decided to digress a bit ... I have tried to carve a pawn, and then tour

Then I decided to make the propeller. I'm not sure that it will be clearly visible under the water, but let it be ...

I forgot that I still have not done rudder ...
I have glued the "sandwich" from hornbeam strips of different colors. Then I made the rudder with a scalpel, needle files and sandpaper.

Hi everyone!
During the last weekend I was continuing to work with this project.
First I made the shrouds for the fock-mast.

Ladder to the navigation bridge... I was forced to make a new ladder

Shrouds ... I decided to use some photo-etched parts for making of the shrouds.

During the study of the drawings of the ship, I realized that the boom of the front mast was also used as the cargo boom. So I made a hook.

I prepared the bottle and measured the volume of the sea. I will fill the sea in the bottle to two parts and I need to know exactly the volume of each part.

Hi everyone!
So I made the second anchor, and then I took another anchor, and I have painted them both.

Can't imagine how that first one disappeared, Igor. You made both anchors even smaller than you got it as PE delivered. That's about two matchstick heads high You that with the help of a pair of pliers right?
