    Little update...

the stairways are quite easy made due to the pricise brass etch patterns.
One of my most importent work documents is the orientation plan for vents, red indicated (size and tube diameter), and the stairs, green indicated

    Update

it seems that this platform on the actual ship is deck-planked, but comprises no railing around it and not even an access ladder or stair to get on it. Presume it was for crew only, but still I think there should at least be a little ladder mounted, because the skylight windows as well as the small deck will have to be cleaned now and then. If I`m wrong, please let me know... So now I spent a litte improvised access-ladder which can be reached through the middle passage between the machineroom skylights (for crew only !)

The stairways to the lower deck are fitted and one can be seen through the open door of the starboard side companionway.
When grinding work is done in the workshop, the model is dust-protected by a light plastic foil that is held up by the two masts

I find the absence of pictures on less notable ships.........but on the other hand I've experienced it with famous ships too.   what you've done so far Nils is beyond words.  the structures,  the vents,  the railings,  are so very well done.   combined on one deck........or three,  and it becomes a world all it's own!

    wonderful work Nils!

    Update

some of the actual ships upper structures are from planked wood and I would like to resemble this as well...., Thats why some aft deck housings and later on also the housings / structures around the forward comand bridge on upper levels are obviosly wooden planked.
In order to resemble the wooden planking, I made some little test pieces of 3 mm wood stripes with pencil caulked edges. Whereby the nutwood stripes come out too dark, the test piece with beech planking and a light cherry stain and varnish on it comes near to mahagony with a light silky appeal, and builds a good contrast to the brass window frames

Put on the aft hatch with two compagnionway hatch-type-entrees, and the large doublestory light before the aft deck winches......

    Hello Nils,

I'm back and caught-up from early October.  We had a little setback due to hurricane Matthew but are more or less at a normal stage now.
What fantastic progress you have made in these few weeks.  Marvelous work and craftsmanship.  Your model shines and worthy to be displayed in any museum.

    Cheers,

    Hi B.E.

many thanks for your kind compliment..., in the moment its taking quite some time to get these little things together,
    but in the meantime.....
If you wish, and for those who are also interested in the present status, so to say what has been done since keellaying in June last year, here some illustrations I picked out....

I just had a little chuckle. Those vents reminded me of a whole bunch of meerkats checking out the view. All standing up straight and facing the same direction.

    Hi Bill,

presume you mean the rims of the skylight panel lids....
The rims are made by inserting 2,5 ² mm lead sockets (for conduct wire ends) through the drilled holes in the brass panel, and soldering these to the panel. The German word is "Aderendhuelsen", sorry do`n t know the engl. term. I also used these for all the hull`s portholes
The remaining end at the rearside is then cut off, The skylight ports remain without "glassings"

Astonishing. Your brass work gets better all the time ... They can't complain about ventilation in the engine room. That's certain ...

    Mike,

thanks very much for your words,
and also all the "likes" for clicking on...

relating to the sailing on these liners, take a look at the "rolling mode" of the KWdG ( nickname : Rolling Billy)  compared with the horizon at relatively moderate sea, trust many passengers had become seasick on those rides. Pic borrowed from the web...
