  1. Well, moving on.....here is today's progress. The rest of the Hurricane House is assembled and dry fitted. It still needs trimout, clean up, sanding, and painting yet, but that will hopefully come later this evening.....
  2. Hi Popeye, yeah, it wasn't too long ago when I passed through your Burg... I used to have some copper paint, but lost it in the move last year. Oh well, it'll give me an excuse to go to the Hobby store...lol.....the other structure is moving right along. I have 2 of the 4 sides built, and should probably be finished later today if life doesn't get in the way....I do agree with ya'll that I need to cover it up not so obvious that way....too bad we don't live closer I could just borrow a few drops - which is probably all I need....and then we could give each other a hard time all the time...lol...
  3. Yeah, that's what I'll do....it bothers me when I look at it....it might be a little while before I can do it, I don't have any copper paint, and the Hobby Store is about 25 miles from where I live. Good suggestion BE, thanks.
  4. Hi BE, I'm thinking about that.....the funny thing is that I made them from copper, then painted them black for contrast....go figure....lol
  5. Hi Popeye, please don't misunderstand....I greatly appreciate the input, it helps to have more than one view, and the Eagle Eyes of this forum are terrific. There are many mistakes already made here and this only one of them....I welcome all observations, critiques, and advice from any and all. That's one of the reasons we post pictures of our builds and progress. The only way we learn is through our mistakes....I just like to flick the banter around with all of you, that is what makes all of this fun. I think any attempt at correction at this point would tear and disfigure the copper plates. They are fragile enough without messing with them, and that is one part that is not very forgiving.....especially after being CA'd. I used the CA because it was metal to metal and CA offered the best adhesive.....and it don't want to let go.....thanks again Bro!
  6. I knew you had a plan in mind....time to get out your trusty drawing pencil my friend.....it'll be a nice addition....look out for Popeye....he sees all....lol
  7. Man.....do something right and you barely get noticed....do something wrong and it hits the perverbial fan....lol....seriously though... thanks Popeye...we all need a watchdog....you're a good friend, and I greatly appreciate it......
  8. Hi Piet, yep.....Popeye (evil eye) got me.....I knew I couldn't escape it....so I just went with it.....
  9. Hi Dave, Danish food sounds good, perhaps with honey and cinnamon....could be good deserts maybe.....anyways Dave, when you get to mounting Rudders some day, if it's backwards, the weight of the rudder has nothing to support it if it is upside down.....a peened hinge bolt would wear out rapidly like mine is set up and could and probably would fall off....not good physics.....this was just pure oblivion....I wasn't looking at it....getting old I guess....but for the general public, they'll never know the difference....only ship and model builders and of course this forum.......please...no Captain's Mast...I'm punished enough just knowing it.....
  10. Hi Popeye, what happened was when I started gluing it with the CA, I handled it upside down and continued to match it accordingly starting at the bottom, and working my way up, therefore, getting it completely backwards.....then I CA'd it to the ship with my mind on the tiller height, and lining up the copper sheeting...not even thinking about the fact that it was backwards....all done, attached the tiller .... also with CA, and then touch up paint....blah...blah....started working on the rest of the Hurricane House, and then took pictures....put them on the computer and went....Oh S#@$.........they're upside down......anyways, I'm going to leave them like they are, and oh by the way, I forgot to redo them.....
  11. Hi Popeye, I caught this afterwards, and it is too late to switch them....they are glued with CA, and it would screw up the ship and the rudder coppering.....oops.....and the bad thing about this is that I knew that ahead of time, and had full intentions of making sure it was right.....that is until I realized I did it backwards...thanks for the input though, but to anyone that's not on the forum, they'll never know.....only me and you.....lol......maybe the rudder won't fall off.....
  12. Hi Popeye, yeah, it is a really interesting set up....no seat though, I think this guy was the cook at the same time, so while things were burning in the galley, he was trying to steer the ship at the same time.....he could lean up against the skylight which is next after I finish the Hurricane House. It goes forward of the tiller on that long black hole in the deck, it also holds the compass....
  13. Now working on the Head, and Companionway for the Officers, or considered the rest of the Hurricane House....
  14. Now before any of you give me a hard time about how the rudder is mounted in reference to the keel, here are the plans, and I confirmed it with plans from Mystic and it IS NOT supposed to be in line with the keel....it is higher for some reason.....unknown to me as to why....I don't think I've seen this on other ships....
  15. Rudder is mounted to the ship, the tiller is mounted to the rudder, and some chocks and cleats were added to the inside wales.
  16. Thanks Popeye, the rest of the Hurricane House gets strted today. I'm currently hinging the Rudder and soon to attach it to the Stern, attach the Tiller & Wheel, which I've already built, then it's off to the rest of the Hurricane House....
