Well, so far today I ran one of two Bobstays to the Bowsprit.  It included making a copper bracket and soldering a ring to it and attaching to the stem, making up the chain and attaching to a deadeye, then attaching a deadeye to the bowsprit and rigging the lanyard for the deadeyes.......so I guess with that said I'm officially working on the rigging.....hopefully, more to follow later today.

Here is today's ......limited....progress.  Not much but once again it is progress.  My time in the shipyard has been torn between life and yard.....Strange, we went from 17 F day before yesterday, and last afternoon I was grilling on the deck.  Today in the 60's....go figure.....So anyways, here are pictures of what got done today.  A little more work on the masts, and I got the anchors hung.  These anchors will be changed soon.  When I bought my kit, the one thing the guy did was to glue and paint the anchors, and glue and paint the cauldrons for the Tryworks.  No idea why....so, I have ordered more anchors from MS, however they are out of stock.  So I went ahead and hung them off and all I will need to do is undo 1 brass ring to replace them.  I want to have the anchor in Brittania, and the anchor stocks in wood.  So once recieved I'll be changing these out......

Well, it has been a slow day in the shipyard today so far.  I worked on different parts of the masts today, mainly for getting the feel of what I'm doing and what I need to do.  Couldn't really get into it today for some reason, so it's mostly piddly stuff.  I cut the pieces for the foremast and worked on them.  Squaring them and tapering them, and building crosstrees.  I put them back on the ship for reference and to visualize how it's going to look.  One thing is for sure...the masts are going to be tall.  Added a few more tools to the Tryworks area.....scrapers, copper dippers, and hand hooks.......right side of front of Tryworks on the brick step....don't show up well in pictures....tomorrow more work on the mainmast and the bowsprit......so here are some random pictures for you know who....

Thanks Popeye and Wayne, details are still in the works.  Yesterday and today were real life chores.  I had to build a double hinged gate to close in our RV from view frome the street, so shipyard was closed.  After finishing, I have managed to get in a few minutes though.  So here is today's progress.....1 deadeye and chain plate....starboard foremast .....tomorrow is another day....

Well, as I started checking things, I realized I hadn't built the Breasthook earlier as I was waiting till the opportune time, well, today was opportune if it was going to get done, so I worked on the foremast and the breasthook today.....

Thanks Mates for all the "likes".  I've written this once, and it vanished in cyberspace before it posted, so I'll try again.  I've been working with fiddly stuff again, trying to get all the details I want on deck done before moving on too far.  This is really fun in that the more details I can accomplish the more real it looks.  I'm enjoying that....this is much different from plastic that I am used to working with.  With wood you have to create everything from.....(that awful word again) ....scratch.  I'm finding more and more of the Brittania fittings from the kit are unacceptable when dealing with minute details.  Many of them I have not used in this build for that reason.  I didn't care for the grinding wheel in Brittania, so I remade it to make it look realistic.....much better in my opinion.  So here are some updates for today so far, and hopefully more to come later today.....probably be working on foremast details and maybe even some chainplates and deadeyes.  They will have to go on also before and boat davits, cranes or otherwise so now I'll get to change hats again to "rigger" I guess....I'll be checking several of ya'lls logs for steps and instruction on them.......hope you're all up to snuff!

Well, hopefully everyone survived Christmas and having enjoyable times with family and friends.  The shipyard is kinda quiet so far today, not sure if I'll do much.  I have just been playing around with details and masts.  I cut the foremast, mainmast, and mizzen mast from stock.  I built the foremast top platform, trestle tree and cheek knees for the foremast.  I dry fitted the foremast and cut the fore topmast just to see how all of this will come together.  Still have numerous details to add to the foremast before it gets stepped, so mostly just playing today.....I think...

OK, well actually a milestone has been reached today.  With the exception of the Davits, cranes, and Boat Slides that will attach to the outside of the hull and a couple of very small details yet to be done, the deck structures/furniture is complete.  I'm including quite a few pictures for documentation to show the hull structure complete.  I have not decided on the order of adding the Davits and other components yet, and contemplating starting the masts.  Geez I hate saying that...... you guys are relentless.....

Thanks, Augie.  This is probably my third or fourth iteration on some of it but I like the way it looks overall.

Thanks for the kind words, Lawrence.  I can only compare Chuck's line to the synthetic line that came with the kit.  Chuck's is a lot easier to manipulate and form, looks much more natural as well.

Thanks, John.  Not much to show but at least I am moving forward again!

And I thought I was the only one with a fetish for bowsprits. Underhill talks at length of them in Masting and Rigging. I think they really cool. Long and tapering, or short and stubby, they add a certain something to a ship. I gained a monumental appreciation for the strength of their supporting rigging when I made a small repair to the bowsprit on my 1:96 Cutty Sark that snapped off due to my clumsy movements. I drilled out the end of both pieces, inserted a sewing needle and then glued it back together. It really was a half measure, still a little floppy and flimsy but once I rigged the bobstays and bowsprit shrouds, along with the forestays it really steadied up. All hail the long lith bowsprit.
