  1. I am planning to try my 1st scratch model with the HMS Winchelsea. I have a little work to finish on my New Bedford Whaleboat before I start. I will most likely be purchasing some of the laser cut items. Looking forward to this as a fun project and a great learning activity.
  2. Planning to start the build as soon as finish my whaleboat And I will start a build log! 😊
  3. Just purchased the plans from the NRG store. Looking forward to the forum and build! Thanks Chuck for all your hard work.
  4. Completed my Whaleboat sail, Sewing, Grommets, and Boltrope finished. Ready to bend the sail on to the mast in the morning. Already started working on the harpoons and lances.
  5. Purchased a $29.99 Varmax mini sewing machine from Amazon to sew my whaleboat sail. It worked very well and I finished a lot of the lines on the sail this morning. I will be gluing & sewing the sails edges later today, then adding the grommets and boltrope.
  6. Ironed sail cloth and make a card stock template of full size whaleboat sail. Ordered fabric glue and researching drawing on sail to show sail sections without sewing on sail. Making up four (4) rope grommets for sail corners.
  7. Stays completed for main mast. Time to start working on the sail. Not a lot left to make, some irons, two knives, an axe, and the steering oar block. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
  8. I purchased the Mamoli CSS Alabama kit some time ago when I found it on sale. In looking over the kit I was not impressed with the instruction plans provided! Any suggestions as to where I might find better build plans for the Alabama? Thanks
  9. Drogue, Water Keg, Bucket and Lantern Keg completed. Working on Piggin this afternoon. Will be starting the Spirit Pole and Sail work tomorrow.
  10. Stern and Waist tubs completed, grommet & thimble attached to the port gunwale at the mast thwart for the shroud lanyard. Next need to work on the drogue, water keg, & piggin.
  11. I ordered a Syren Serv-o-Matic Ship Model Rope Serving Machine yesterday. I have not had much luck in finding a vendor to purchase the 100 wt black thread from. Anyone know some vendors for thread? ~ THANKS ~

  13. I got my 1st Issue of NRG Magazine yesterday in the mail. OUTSTANDING! You all are doing a great job with the magazine and looking forward to reading it from cover to cover. THANKS for all the work it takes to produce and publish such a fine work!
  14. Started work yesterday on the rowlocks. Serving them over to muffle their sound when hunting the whale. Stern line tub built and making a trip to Walmart today for some wood filler and other things. Here is a photo of a rope tub that I am using as a model for mine.
  15. Rowlocks completed and attached. Next step is to serve them over. Started work on the Stern Line Tub.
  16. Steering oar bracket, Strop and Lanyard completed and bent to the aft cleat. Now on to the Oar Rowlocks.
  17. Whaleboat hull painting completed and now on to building the gear needed to hunt the whale fish.
  18. Finished painting dark green on Whaleboat hull this morning. I plan to let her dry overnight and then do a little touch up tomorrow after which it is on to the building of the oars.

  20. Here are two(2) photos of my completed Ship in Bottle models. The Charlotte B and the Charles W. Morgan outbound in the rain to hunt the whale fish. Hope you enjoy the photos.
