Working on hull painting and will do some weathering later after paint is nice and dry. After the painting is completed I will be building the oars and line tubs. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel to having this build completed! 🙂

I have been working on a different stand for my Whaleboat model. The cradle stands holds the boat a lot better then my 1st round wooden stands. I stained the cradle stands the same as on the base and also gave them a light coat of poly to match better with the base.

Looks Great! You are doing a very nice job on her! I just finished reading a book about her voyages written by Captain Raphael Semmes. I built the model back in 1966 when in High School but it was not as well done as you are doing now!

Yes, I found it on Amazon books at a great price for the hardcover edition.

I found this vendor online and as a CW buff I like the look of some of the models they market. Does anyone know anything about this company and/or have built any of their models? https://flagshipmodels.com/ Thanks ~ Rich

"Seahawk of the Confederacy" by R. Thomas Campbell is the biography of naval officer Lt. Charles W. Read. It records his service in the confederate navy and his being stationed aboard a number of vessels during the war. I found the work to be an enjoyable read which was full of information about that time period in our nations history.

Back on February 1st of this year, I purchased the Model Shipways New Bedford Whaleboat kit from Model Expo. I have been a modeler on and off through out my life in plastic and card stock models, and now that I am retired I wanted to give a wooden model a try. I have been working a little each day on the whaleboat and I believe I have made good progress. I am at the stage now where the basic whaleboat is together and do have a few question, so I will start posting some of my build photos and hope you all enjoy my beginners efforts!

Thanks for adding me to as a member. I have been a model builder off and on for most of my life. Cars when in High School, Ships and Ships in Bottles while in the Navy and Coast Guard. Now, that I am retired, I am working on my 1st wooden kit, a New Bedford Whaleboat.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
