  1. My twin brother died 12 months ago and I inherited a model of the Billing Boats Wasa model kit. it had been started but had proved a bit too much of a project for him. I took over the build but have just discovered that the plan of the standing rigging is missing from the plans. I have tried various kit shops but they either do not reply to my phone message or cannot help me. If there is someone out there who can help me I would be very grateful. I would like to finish this build as a reminder to me of my twin brother. Thankyou for reading this post

  2. Hi Pavel , yes it probably would but I would still need the old parts to copy.

I would like to reuse as much of the original model as I can so I will clean up and repair what I can and completely replace what I can't. There are several carvings that will need to be replaced because they have been lost over the years and that will be my first foray into carving.

Just a quick update: I have now removed the poop deck and the decorative transom parts. Pictures with my next post.

  3. Hi Michael,

some of the plastic parts are missing and the transom has been badly distorted by the use of too much plastic cement that the previous owner had used to glue the transom on with. The planking was not done well and in parts has used filler to smooth out the planks. This is a single planked model so the planking will be coming off. I was fortunate to obtain a wooden kit motor launch (Billings)with the planks still unused from a charity shop. Using these, and the remainder of the planks from the original kit I hope to have enough to complete the hull. Thanks for your comments

  4. Its a new year and its time I cracked this build log thingy, so before I start typing the history of this model I want to make sure I can get the pictures uploaded. Well thanks to my son I've been able to get some pictures on the log. The model had been kicking around an outhouse for about 25 years. Some of the fittings were lost but the overall condition leaves a lot of work to be done to restore / replace it to a suitable condition from where I can progress. I think it will be a total strip down because I have no idea what inhabitants have moved in and the last thing I want is to see is a finished model succumbing to parasites. I have followed many of the different builds on this site and I am proud to be a member of it. I felt it was time to contribute my meagre effort and I hope that this log may be of some help to those who feel that a model is not worth completing

  5. Hi Matti, nice work mate, it looks fantastic. I hope you stay with us when the ship is finished because as soon as I can work out how to get the pictures from

my camera to the build log I shall begin my first build log. Having said that I still have to find out how to work my camera. I can remember when you just used to point the thing and press a button, nowadays you have to pick modes, filters and God knows what before you get a picture .

I am such a technophobe :( my daughter has said she will help me. When I get up and running I hope that I can call on you and the other Vasa builders to give me some help and advice along the way, the model as she is at the moment is in a sorry state. As a matter of fact if I leave her as she is she could model the ship as she was at the bottom of the sea ;).

You have given us so much information with your build log mate that I cant wait to start mine

  6. Hi Matte, I totally agree with Nigel about making a dust cover for the ship. Take the opportunity to make it a lot bigger than the permanent case to enable you to take it off and on the ship without catching it. I'm due to start my Wasa / Wasan / Vasa now and as soon as I can get my daughter to show me how to post pictures I will start a build log. Coincidentally, the ship looks more like a log in it's present state I wont start it until I learn to post. Theres no way that I can come anyway near your beautiful build but your log has been, and will be a source of inspiration for me

  7. Where can I buy / obtain plans or kit of a 1/48 scale ships boat for the Bounty? I have recently finished the Del Prado version (extremely heavily bashed) but have come up against a brick wall where the boat is concerned. The supplied version is not only over scale but also resembles a brick not a boat. If anyone can help me with this I would be very grateful, thankyou

  8. Hi Ed, where can I buy this fantastic bible containing all things clipperish ? I must have a hard copy of this amazing build so that I can have my daily fix when I need it ! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Edit: I notice that certain word are doubled up with a "linked to" sign attached to them. Is this just on my PC or has the site been hacked.
