Hello, new update. @BranPie I didn’t know what sternpost was 😅 I thing it’s good now. I removed all the nails next to the sternpost, it was the best thing i did. Now i understand why some people just use the nails to secure the strips in place. I need to glue the bulwarks at the back. Not finished sanding yet. Step by step 🤞🏻

@BranPie Yes, Thanks, the stern is not fully sanded, just half. It will require more attention. Or maybe the pictures don’t have the best angles 😅

Thanks! I had experience before with plastic models but nothing compared with wood model ships. I’ve bought some tools, nothing expensive, at local stores.. Glue, sandpaper, basic stuff.. I really recommend to start this hobby. Any question you have just ask and someone gives you an advice. I started a build log here because I wanted to document everything, things I did wrong, bad materials, products.. Enjoy! Regarding the buccaneer, I’m planning to buy the San Juan from occre instead. Similar to Polaris, etc. 👍🏻👍🏻

First wood strip, there is a gap below the bulwark and the wood strip on the stern. Maybe I should glue a piece of wood in that gap. Or wait for the second planks.. Anyways..

More updates. at the stern, the bulwark end a little lower than expected maybe I will try to bend them.

Good evening everyone 🥸 Finally I’ve started bending the bulwarks. (In this case just one) Very happy with the result. Bought a soldering iron and used hot water to bend. ‘Inside’ the bulwark, the black stripes were made from positioning the bulwark more than 1 second on the soldering iron. Didn’t know. Anyways..

Good evening, the curved sander arrived, and progress has been made. Just one step. 😅 I found out that I still have to sand the bulkhead frames before planking the hull. Glad to know, I have more sanding to make. Tomorrow I will continue. Some updates today -

Thank you so much! Oh yes, I’ve been waiting for a curved sander to finish the job on that specific area. It arrived today and tomorrow I’ll post more pictures 😄

I have an irregularity on the last bulkhead frame, on the right side. I will sand and hope for the best.

Fresh news, i've started planking the deck. For the first time, using contact glue, in my opinion, i think i did a good job. It could be better of course. At the moment they are drying. Tomorow i will continue the process.

I have placed the deck without any glue just to check if everything was ok. The fit was nice. The skeleton has a slightly curve and i was concerned about that. I finished the day with some wood sanding. I've used 1200 sandpaper btw.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
