I built one of the two cranes. It was very difficult to assemble and took many attempts. Unfortunately, one of the pe parts was attached backwards, and thus does not line up with the other. It's not super noticeable, and I think I'll leave it be, as the potential for causing more harm is very high with these thin parts.
-
I have done some more superstructure. I have decided to leave any railings that require curving off for the present.
-
I’ve done a little more work on the masts, but some of the mast tips have become bent, as the plastic is extremely thin. I’ve been looking for brass replacements but haven’t found any yet. I’ll leave the masts off until the end, in the hopes that I can find suitable replacements.

hopefully they'll leave me some extra. At least the bit I messed up was reasonably small

So far my first attempt at doing a pe railing has not gone well at all. It has been bent quite a lot, and I’m not sure how to deal with this. I have tried to straighten it out, but to no avail. Perhaps I could leave this railing off.

I managed to sort out the rear turret, which I have dry fitted to the deck, along with the front superstructure
-
Oven started painting up all the various bits that go on the deck, as well as some of the superstructure. It went pretty well, although there are some visible gaps, as the parts did always fit on correctly. My main concern now is the rear turret, there doesn't seem to be room for it to fit on properly. Maybe finding a way to boost it up a couple millimetres would help.

after some fiddling around with it, I have determined that my tweezers are too thick to bend the rungs of the ladder. Are there any good pairs of modelling tweezers you would recommend?
-
I made some very minor changes to the largest rust streak, and added some green and brown oil paints around the waterline. Unless there’s something I missed, I think I’m done this side
-
Did some rust, the colour was a lot brighter than I anticipated, so I may tone it down with some darker tones later. I also continued working on the pe.
-
Should I add a coat of acrylic clear to the hull before I continue weathering? I'm worried that the enamel thinner will blur the streaking I've done
-
This kit itself doesn't, I was talking about the eduard stuff. There are two sets (part one and part two) which I found to be somewhat odd.
-
That surprises me, as the pe included in the two sets seems quite extensive. Thanks for letting me know.

Splendid work on these guns! What kind of tools did you use to fabricate them? I recently bought this kit, and am disappointed by the poor mould quality (and the lack of pe replacements)
-
A preview of what I'll be up to next. I think Prinz Eugen will be first. I buy too many kits.
-
Where would you recommend putting rust? I know that there will be some around the anchor, and maybe some more around the gun ports, but other than that, I'm not too sure
-
I removed a few streaks to give it a more natural feel. These pictures also have better lighting. I'm going away for a week, but when I return I'll add some salt effects as well as some black and brown grunge like @RGL does (probably should have done that before the streaking). The streaking effects from AK were much harder to use than I thought they'd be, but I think I did alright.

Also, I'd really like to build another French pre dreadnought after this one, but the only other options I've found were two other Danton class ships from hobbyboss which are very similar to this one. If any of you know of other manufacturers that make them, please let me know.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
