Daniel Very impressive carving. The wood is lighter color than the hull. Is it box wood or holly? Keep up the great work. Robert

Daniel Great metal work. I have even more regard for your abilities now. I acquired a set of plans for LE REQUIN from ANCRE in Paris. Thinking I would also try to build LE REQUIN. I studied the plans. They are very detailed and complex. A build like yours is beyond my abilities. Keep up the great work. Robert

Daniel Found an old picture of my Xebec. Scale is 1:76 (5/32 inch = 1 foot). Solid hull of pine. Decorations and carvings are plaster of Paris. Looking forward to you next photos. Robert

Daniel I think I have a picture of my Xebec. I will post it when I find it. I made it in 1963. The plans were published in a magazine called Popular Mechanics in 5 issues from November 1958 to March 1959. It was called: "Modeling the French Chebec" by E. R. Haan. The plans appeared to be based on the same model that you are building. Mr. Haan said: "Faithfully reproduced in exquisite detail by skilled craftsmen in the workshops of the French Navy's famous Musee de la Marine in Paris, this beautiful scale model is an authentic copy of the French warship Chebec which was one of several of the xebec class that distinguished themselves by many daring exploits during the years from A.D. 1650 to 1700." Your iron work is incredible detailed. Robert

Daniel I have followed your work for months. Your craftsmanship is excellent. I joined to tell you this. Will you be making the ship's boat? A Chebec is the first model I built years ago. Robert

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
