Roger: Like these? https://garrettwade.com/product/archimedes-screw-drills

Tough to find. I’ll keep looking. Thanks. So far all these solutions are out of my price range. Can someone suggest an affordable push pull drill? I bought a really cheap one but it’s not much better than useless.

Thanks. Using a pin vice to pre drill holes for dozens of lill pins seems tedious.

Do any dremels have a 0-36K rpm variable speed? Variable speed drills seem to have three or four speed settings. I need something that can turn at 300 rpm if needed. Thanks

Knee Pads - used for protection as you crawl around on the floor looking for the 2 mm block you just dropped. Broom - a household cleaning device only used when trying to find and sweep up the 2 mm block you just dropped and couldn’t find after 15 minutes on your hands and knees.

“BELT SANDER : An electric sanding tool commonly used to convert minor touch-up jobs into major refinishing jobs.” LMAO. Also capable of turning a mast into a toothpick in the time it takes you to tell the dog to shut the hell up!

Planking Question
Laggard replied to Malazan's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
Coming back to this as Allans helpful description contained this: “It is basically a groove in the lower edge of the garboard seats as well as the ends of the balance of planking as it rises up the post and stem.” Now as a newbie I have to find out what a garboard is. It’s often one deep rabbit hole just to understand one word. The definition for garboard will undoubtedly have some term that I will need to look up. It never ends. Hell, I have several glossaries bookmarked and still can’t tell you the difference between seizing and stropping. -
Colorado Anglers 102 Vice
Laggard replied to Laggard's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Well crud. I’m sure it was mentioned as a useful model tool. Guess not. -
Stupid thing came with no instructions. Does the end tighten any more than this? If not ‘‘twas a waste of money.

Sorry all. Managed to find a scrap that I can use. Thanks for the offers.

I need maybe four feet of .021 or .018 black line to finish this ship. Model expo is back ordered three weeks, Syren is out and this place in Canada has it but shipping takes three weeks. Anyone able to send me some in exchange for me sending $10 via Venmo? I just want to get this puppy finished. Thanks

Where can I find metal wire?
Laggard replied to flying_dutchman2's topic in Metal Work, Soldering and Metal Fittings
I naively tried to use piano wire. It’s almost impossible to work with. Ugh. -

Laggard replied to Laggard's topic in Masting, rigging and sails
I find myself daydreaming all the time on a way to workout some problem I’m having with a build. It’s good because as an anxious person it gives me something good to focus on. -

I have patience issues. Used to putting models together as a kid and having everything provided ready to be plugged in. I look forward to my next model as I will have more skills to do the things I struggled with this build. I also get frustrated when I take my time and the finished product doesn’t look perfect. There are so many imperfections in my chainplate but don’t have the heart to do it all over again. Im hoping when I’m done and I do all the touching up and cleanup i will feel better about the whole thing. -

And blood? There’s been a lot of bandages being used. -

Well thank you. -
I just spent an hour making two chain plates with deadeyes. That is all.

Brass Blackening questions
Laggard replied to stevenmh's topic in Metal Work, Soldering and Metal Fittings
I’ve never been able to blacken brass. Paint is the best I could do but that inevitably scrapes off. -
Planking Question
Laggard replied to Malazan's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
I’m new too and to be honest never quite understood the rabbet. No amount of videos really made it clear what the purpose was and how to do it.
