  1. …By it’s name or number, I get it…! 😉 😇 However, most navies have an abbreviation in front of the name, to signify what navy it belongs to. The most well known of course is the Royal Navy’s HMS for His/Her Majesty’s Ship. How should an Imperial Japanese Navy ship be referred to? As a modeller I mostly see IJN as in IJN Kongō. Or should it be HIJMS Kongō? Is there even a historically accurate way to designate Japanese naval vessels up to the end of WW2? Cheers, Erik.
  2. Hi everyone, I’m busy with Hasegawa’s 1/350 Mikasa kit. The kit depicts the ship as it was during the 1905 Battle of Tsushima Strait. I have the turned metal barrels from Master of Poland for the primary and secondary guns. I think I have a solution for the 12-pdr/3-inch/7.6cm guns. What I am looking for, however is a source for 1/350 4.7cm Yamanouchi 3-pdr (heavy) QF- guns and 1/350 4.7cm Yamanouchi 2.5-pdr (light) QF-guns. Does anybody know a source for these guns? For the 3-pounder, the Hotchkiss 3-pounder might be a good choice, but it looks like the 2.5-pounder is slightly different? It looks like the writer of this blog thinks the guns were placed differently than Hasegawa instructs? Anyone have thoughts on that? https://warship-mikasa.blogspot.com/2013/03/mikasas-armament-at-tsushima-for-ijn.html Cheers, Erik.
  3. Hi, my first post on this site but not my first modelling experience. I’ve been building for about 45 years. I like a LOT of subjects, way too many really. Aircraft, military vehicles, racing cars, motorcycles and of course ships. I try to limit my ships to 1/350 plastic kits with the odd 1/700 kit mixed in. My main interest is WW2 in the Pacific but it doesn’t take much to lure me of that straight and narrow… At the moment of writing this post I’m trying to build Hasegawa’s 1/350 Mikasa… When I have some interesting photos of the progress, I’ll start a build log. But be warned, my track record of finished kits is abysmal…! Oh , and the One-Oh-Four screen name? My late father was a fighter pilot in the Royal Netherlands Air Force, he flew the Lockheed F-104G Starfighter. They called it the Honderdvier; One-Oh-Four. Cheers, Erik.
