With Occre, you have the advantage of a fairly good illustrated paper instruction manual and a lifetime spare parts guarantee. You can think what you like about them, but the guarantee is actually reliable. The wood was of good quality, as were the fittings, but you can read all about that in my construction report. There is also a very good video on YouTube that you can use for help. I really enjoyed building this model and it taught me a lot. It is always important to go through the construction plans and descriptions in advance, which is also appropriate for my current Corel build and my previous Amati build. The manufacturers do not seem to differ in this respect. With both, you still have the old conventional construction method where you can contribute your own creativity. To be honest, I have to criticise the new-fangled ones like Vanguard. Every little board and hole is pre-lasered. But everyone has to decide for themselves, and I also understand those manufacturers. That's why there are deliberately no machines at my shipyard; here, we build ships just like they did back then. The same goes for the rigging. However, I have to criticise the cast metal parts, as they are of poor quality and break easily. The construction plans are, as is also typical for Corel, somewhat unusual and require careful study. However, the assembly instructions are very detailed. The canvas, which I did not use, seems a little too thick, but is of good quality. However, I must point out that the representation of the gaff sail in particular cannot be used as a template, as it is simply incorrect. In addition, the construction plan contains a somewhat hidden reference to the yards, but does not mention the sails. All in all, it is a nice kit that is fun to build, but not necessarily recommended for absolute beginners. However, this is typical for this manufacturer. Hello again, A conversation with the seller shed some light on the matter. The manufacturer is indeed Naval Models, a Dutch company that still exists. However, they now specialise in plastic models. The kit is said to date back to the 1960s. So we exchanged various details, and now he is waiting for his money and I am waiting for a box of wood. I will keep you posted.

But the whole thing is going away for now, as I have more important things to do for the next three months. I recently went to the furniture store with the Admiralty ‘just to have a look’. After two leisurely cups of coffee, a small stack of papers was placed on the table with the comment, ‘Sign at the bottom right.’ Now I have to tear out our 45-year-old kitchen and, after so many years, renovate the space, which makes sense. Before that, I need to set up an outdoor kitchen in the courtyard behind the house, as I would like to continue to eat.
