    Much agreed. Watco is great stuff. Linseed oil is also great (hard as a rock) Consider using clear finishes to bring out color (vs colored satins)

    Hello and Happy Thanksgiving! As with just about any hobby, there tend to be a few stand-out sources for where the enthusiasts go on line to buy parts, tools, kits, etc. I am wondering who tends to have the best overall pricing and selection. In this case, for wooden ship models ("Really?"), specifically, sailing galleons, and other 1600-1800 era sailboats. I have found so many (Modeler's Central, Wooden Model, Nature coast, Blue Jacket Ship Crafters, to name a few). Any suggestions are much appreciated! Hal in Excelsior, MN

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
