    I discovered this forum while searching for some tips on how to solve some model building issues I’d stumbled into. I’m glad I found you. I started building classic sailing models a few years back, started with the Model shipways longboat, then moved onto the larger armed longboat (which I made a complete hash of so bought a second one and started over). I’m nearly finished with the Lady Nelson cutter which really challenged me with learning rigging skills. I really enjoyed this ship but the plans were awful. I’ve just begun work on the Model Shipways Rattlesnake which is shaping up to be the most challenging yet. I’m not sure how much I’ll document this build yet, but I hope to pick a lot of information up off this forum to improve my skills. Next ship will be the Surprise but that’s next years build. Thanks for this forum.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955.
