Delightful work, Phil. Such fun to build one of your old ships (I've built two of mine)!

Jim Lad got a reaction from MAGIC's Craig in Gaff sloop of unknown design c. 1910 by Bedford - RESTORATION - possibly to RC
Should be able to attach extra ballast for sailing. maybe even have a sailing rig and a display rig?

Thank you very much, John. I am somewhat surprised at how well she seems to be coming out and I am pleased that the reception TWILIGHT receives.
Here is another image I forgot to include.

Of course if you rig her fully, you could then take her sailing!

Thank you John, I forgot to mention that I made the stanchions out of cherry after looking at Phil’s photos where they seemed to have a natural wood color. I think they give her a bit more character

Jim Lad got a reaction from jerome in Herzogin Cecilie 1902 by Jim Lad - Four Masted Barque
Denis, every piece of rigging is included on the model. Some of it takes a bit of research to get right as her running rigging details varied a bit from what I'm used to. Thanmfully she was a much loved ship and there are a lot of photos to help with the research.

An interesting project, Jimbo. It's always "interesting" to sort out someone else's errors on a model that you're re-doing.

Jim Lad got a reaction from Knocklouder in Herzogin Cecilie 1902 by Jim Lad - Four Masted Barque
Had a bit of a break between our holiday and starting treatment, so here's a final final update for a while! 🙂
The mizzen upper topgallants are now rigged and the sharp eyed might also notice that the fore lower shrouds are also sporting ratlines. Only one more square sail to go and then the full ratline, lower sheet, brace thing happens, plus some deck details I can't put on yet.
The 'Duchess' will hopefully return to active duty in mid November!

Another small update. The mizzen upper topsail is now rigged (apart from the halliard), so only 3 more square sails to go and then the 3 sails on the jigger. Of course, there's still a mass of work to do on he after all the sails are on, but at least she'll look more or less like a complete ship then.
This will probably be the last update for some time. We're off on holiday next week and then I'm up for daily medical treatment for some time after that so that will stop me getting to the museum for a while.

Another update. The 'Duchess' continues to grow sails. First two on the mizzen mast. The cro'jack is rigged, the lower topsail merely crossed at this stage, but at least she looks a little more balanced with sails on all three of the forward masts.

A little more progress on the 'Duchess'.
All six yards are now crossed on the mainmast, so that leaves only six more square sails to rig. When I look at the model now, I sometimes think that she's getting towards completion; then I remember ratlines, braces, staysail sheets and deck details to complete and go back to wondering whether she'll ever get there! 😉

It's been a little while since the last update, but the 'Duchess' continues to grow.
The main upper topgallant is crossed and partly rigged, and the royal is sitting on the base waiting its turn. I had a minor panic at the museum yesterday when I allowed myself to be distracted by a visitor when I was in the middle of trying to thread a buntline through a lead block with the result that I brushed the mast heavily, carrying away a couple of buntline blocks and snapping a buntline. After I finished swearing (under my breath as there were visitors there) I spent some time repairing the damage. I sometimes think that the true skill facing us is the ability to repair the damage we cause to our own models during construction! 😀

A landmark day (of sorts) on Monday, with half the square sails now rigged (apart from their braces, of course). I should get the main lower topgallant crossed either Friday or Monday, so she's looking more and more like a sailing ship and less like an abandoned wreck!
