  1. I am in the process of installing the hammock nettings and have found this to be quite a challenge. For those other relative beginners who don't have access to Chuck Passaro's great instructions for the U.S. Brig Syren , I'd like to offer some thoughts.

Chuck suggested using a piece of cardboard as a background to save your eyes, probably the best suggestion in this Chapter. The attached pictures (sorry, from my phone) demonstrate using white paper. I laced the inboard top of the net first. I am using a smooth piece of wood to give the net some temporary shape and keep the outboard portion of the net separated from the inboard portion. So far, I have only started over once.post-636-0-15024700-1372446179.jpgpost-636-0-72160300-1372446155.jpg

Now I see that I missed a hinge on one of the gun port lids--

  2. I began this project in August 2012. I'm in the process of completing the Deck Fittings, Chapter 13.

I am attempting to keep the colors true to the ship's early service life. The deck would have been holy stoned

every morning so I am keeping it lighter than the deck fittings. I find positioning the fittings square and in proper relationship to other portions of the model to be a bit of a challenge. I have to learn to accept my own experience level.

Moderators, please forgive entering this as a build log if it doesn't fit the requirements , it seemed like the best choice.

    Cheers, Harley
