I am in the process of installing the hammock nettings and have found this to be quite a challenge. For those other relative beginners who don't have access to Chuck Passaro's great instructions for the U.S. Brig Syren , I'd like to offer some thoughts.
Chuck suggested using a piece of cardboard as a background to save your eyes, probably the best suggestion in this Chapter. The attached pictures (sorry, from my phone) demonstrate using white paper. I laced the inboard top of the net first. I am using a smooth piece of wood to give the net some temporary shape and keep the outboard portion of the net separated from the inboard portion. So far, I have only started over once.
Now I see that I missed a hinge on one of the gun port lids--

I began this project in August 2012. I'm in the process of completing the Deck Fittings, Chapter 13.
I am attempting to keep the colors true to the ship's early service life. The deck would have been holy stoned
every morning so I am keeping it lighter than the deck fittings. I find positioning the fittings square and in proper relationship to other portions of the model to be a bit of a challenge. I have to learn to accept my own experience level.
Moderators, please forgive entering this as a build log if it doesn't fit the requirements , it seemed like the best choice.
Cheers, Harley

Thank you for the great pictures. How do you get the lines to lay flat?

After many years out of ship model building at a basic skill level, I am working on MS Syren. I am installing the carronades. I have tried different methods to duplicate the setup that Chuck shows in his instructions but have not been able to get acceptable results.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Harley

Does anyone know of commercial carronades that would fit the MS Syren better?

Would the hammock cranes on the Brig Syren been covered?
Thanks, Harley
