pete48 reacted to Mirabell61 in SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse 1897 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:144 - POF - first German four stacker of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line
Update :
starting with the upper bridge. Made new stairs for replacement with 135 ° angle in the railing. There will be several Y- shaped supports from the upper to the lower bridge...., made one as prototype in brass to see if it works...
Nils
these tiny buggers (stairs, supports) are quite tricky for soldering
but look nice, when done...
the supports have to be integrated when the upper bridge is mounted, Here an example pic from a nice built card model I found on the web

small update :
made the lower bridge-deck railings, these guide the first class passengers alongside the structures of funnels 1 + 2 to the staircase that goes down to the promenade deck, so no one gets lost on the boats-level. There are no railing to the sea-side of the boats.
The etched copper railing is too "flimsy" on its own, so I spent a reinforcement rail at the bottom side and the obligatory brass handrail to strengthen the upper side.

A bit more....the toe rails are done & installed & I'm making the 6 horn cleats that sit around the cockpit area. The toe rails seemed especially fragile & gave me some grief. The Queensland Maple generally seems good to work with, but 1.5 x 2.5mm seems to be beyond it, just seemed to break at the slightest touch.
Sampson post started also, it will need a rod plus some quad timbers to trim it off.
thanks,
MP

thank you Patrick, & I agree that the designer had an artistic eye -
The spray boards are on (not sure if they have a proper name), they channel spray across the deck & help stop it going down the companionway hatch, & a spray dodger would clip off to it. The toe rails will possibly be next.
Also, temporary portholes / scuttles, done with paper to check position & size.
thanks

Hi Keith, Coeur d' Alene is a beautiful part of the North West. The Deck is looking good. The way to add all references to your posting is done in the Signature. go to your profile page and hit the edit my profile button in the upper right corner, Then on the left side select signature, it will then display " my current signature" scroll down and in the edit signature, you can set it up however you like. I hope that helps
Best regards,
