Hello everyone,
my name is Alessio Mandelli, and I'm from Italy. I've been working on the Sovereign of the Seas as a scratch-built model for the past 16 years. It has been a long and passionate journey, and I'm still making progress step by step.
The model is made entirely out of wood, but heavily reinterpreted and customized. I have focused especially on the historical accuracy of the decorative elements following McKay's monograph.
All the ornamental sculptures (figures, scrollwork, stern decorations, etc.) have been designed in 3D CAD software and printed in resin using a 3D printer, in order to capture fine detail at scale. Some elements have gone through multiple iterations until I was satisfied with the visual and historical result.
This is my first post on Model Ship World, and I'd be very happy to share my progress, listen to your advice, and learn from your experience.
Thank you for welcoming me aboard!
Best regards,
Alessio (Tuvok)
