Omega1234 reacted to Jason Builder in FD 10 Yawl Arnanes by Jason Builder - FINISHED - Billing Boats 701 - 1:50 scale
Hi Everyone,
I drilled the hole through the hull for the rudder with an electric drill, glad it all went well! The rudder is also assembled and painted. Scuppers were not in the plan but I added some, and also added some vertical frame pieces above the deck along the inside of the hull, where the spacing between the actual internal bulkheads seemed to big. This way when you look at the frames they look more properly spaced. Also, the frame-tops that you see along the inside of the hull, protruded out too far in toward the center line of the ship, so I trimmed them back to be flush with the railing. Holes have been cut in for the masts and I made the top railing out of solid wood in lieu of the plywood provided.

Hi Everyone,
I have been building the deck fittings, hatches, and so on from cherry. I made the hole in the hull for the bowsprit this morning: drilled a small hole and than filed the hole to the finished size with a round file.

Omega1234 reacted to Mirabell61 in SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse 1897 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:144 - POF - first German four stacker of the Norddeutscher Lloyd line
The anchors,
found these good looking and scaled heavy metal anchors, in nostagic design of 1900 in a Hamburg based modeling web shob.
The parts are of castings and have to be deburred, the vertical bar and the hole in the spike-base have to be reworked a little larger, I`m glad I found them, love that nostalgic look with the long spikes.
Two will go at the bow, one at stern and two in the spare anchor supports on the forecastle deck

Thank you Nenad,
you`re right with the hinges, they are made from 0,6mm brass wire, and soldered in 0,6mm drilled holes, the plates are 6 x 5 mm and 0,5 mm thick brass plates

Omega1234 got a reaction from Dimitris71 in Amerigo Vespucci by Dimitris71 - Mantua - 1:100 scale
Hi Dimitris
Just caught up with your wonderful AV and it's really impressive just how good she's looking. I also agree with Nigel (Upstate NY) because it is always nice to see the ship's furniture having such an impact upon the overall appearance of the ship. The deck, also, adds heaps of value as well - nice and clean work.
I was also pleased to see that the Royal Caroline is your next build. I reckon you'll ace it!
All the best
Patrick

Hello shipmates, Captain Slog-Lawrence-Mike-Rich-Brian-Don-Greg-Nigel-Boyd , I do thank you for passing by mates and for all the likes!!!
Back to AV , i installed the stairs on the stern deck. The wooden stanchions are not part of the 1/100 scale model, only in 1/84 so i build them from scratch. It's time to glue some fittings on the decks...
Kind Regards

Omega1234 reacted to NMBROOK in Amerigo Vespucci by Dimitris71 - Mantua - 1:100 scale
Hopefully Panart have realised what a bad idea the balsa was .The book is extremely useful as a guide to providing more detail, however some 'creative thinking' is required as the hull lines in the kit differ from the book.
I spiled every plank from 1.5mm pear sheet on mine.Perhaps unnecessary, but I was concerned as the planks work out at 6mm wide.It did however take around a month of 60 hour weeks to plank .
I look forward to following along and don't be afraid to ask,I am only too glad to help in anyway
Kind Regards

Hello Nigel, thank you for stopping by. The kit has no balsa inside, only lime wood and walnut . I have in mind to use lime as the first planking and then i will order pear strips for the 2nd. Also i will change the 0.5mm strips for the deck planking with 1mm strips. When i saw your RC,i was amazed by the warmth of the wood. Surely I will ask for your help regarding the treenailing of the hull (and maybe, for some other parts of the construction) .... a step by step guidance...lol  Also i have ordered the book "AOS for the Royal caroline".

More great work and congratulations on your new model Dimitris My kit had been sat on the shelf for a few years when I got it,it came with both lime and balsa first planking, letting the builder decide.I tried the balsa route and sanded it off and used the lime instead. If you get a choice,I would recommend using the lime first planking, the balsa is more trouble than it is worth
Kind Regards

Dimitris,
Really nice work on the pin rails. And the white caps on the Bowsprit adds contrast as well as matching the other white pieces on the main deck and hull...well done
