Port and Starboard Dolphins fitted.
Eagle fitted to stern.
I`m not certain if the carving of the Eagle is good enough.
I might take this one off, and re-carve another one.

I don`t normally paint my models, but as these ships were colourful, I decided to give it a bit of colour.

I was going to use sycamore for the deck planking, but decided to use maple instead.
The size of the deck planking is 4x1mm and I used my plank bender to curve the planks.

I was not happy with the carving of the first eagle, so I carved another one from Boxwood.
I cut out the shape of the eagle first, then started the carving.
I took Antony`s advice in putting a light stain on the carving to bring out the detail.
I used French polish and linseed oil.
Carving with the stain on.
Eagle fitted to the stern of the ship.

Hello guy's
I will start my build of the Triton again.
Christian (AnobiumPunctatum) and I are started our builds in 2009. But we built the hull in single frame and not in double frame based of the original drawings (Christians idea). It was originally planned to use the MSW frame drawings. But I realized during the build of the fore cant frames that the MSW frame drawings were not suitable for a single frame build. That's why I had a break for about 4 years. Now I pencilled all the frames new and would like to continue the build of the frames. After the frame build I'll use the MSW drawings for the remaining build.
Now there are some photos from The keel, stern apron etc.
More photos are following soon

stunning midget blocks...
after learning from Chucks Kind advice that the rope and the blocks I had intended to use were far too large, I followed his advice to use maximal 3mm Long blocks and 0,3mm diam rope for gun Tackling in scale 1/64.
I then changed my simple Trial mock up for the gun Tackling using 4mm blocks on the right side (also too large) and the recommended 3mm ones on the left side and am very pleased with the optic result of the 3mm blocks. Also the Problems with the too Long length of the tackle versa the given space between bulwark and carriage eyelet is no longer existing. The breech rope diam. also Looks good. Thanks for your good advice Chuck.
It is incredible in what precision and quality These mini blocks are fabricated to, never seen such before !
Nils
from left to right... 4mm, 3mm, 2,5mm 2mm blocklength
left Hand 3mm block tackle is OK for scale 1/64, right side (too large 4mm tackle)

Today a surprise..
with only 5 days for postage US to Germany ! I received sample blocks from Chucks shop today. They really look fantastic, are of super precision and Quality, so I started straight away to do a typical sample Gun Tackling by using the 4mm blocks
1 x 2 sheave and 1 x 1 sheave
I Chose the natural hemp Color rope 0,5mm diam from 100% Polyester and had to increase the sheave hole borings in the blocks to 0,8 mm. I am happy with the result regarding to the realistic look.
When the rigging starts, I find it is a must to us These fine looking blocks

mij reacted to Keith_W in Custom photoetch resources
Hello all, I did a search and did not come up with any results, so I thought I would start a thread.
Has anybody here tried making custom parts using photo-etch? I know that dafi has, so perhaps he would like to chip in.
I have done some googling to find out if it is possible to make parts for a ship I would like to build. The fittings that come with the kit are rather chunky and I have been thinking about how I would replace them. I think PE is the solution.
It is possible to do photo-etching at home, as per these links:
http://www.steelnavy.com/etching.htm
http://www.starshipmodeler.com/tech/fh_pe.htm
... and you can buy your own PE kit here: http://www.micromark.com/micro-mark-pro-etch-photo-etch-system,8346.html
HOWEVER, it requires an investment in machinery (if you do not already have these): laser printer, fluorescent lamp, heat source, laminator. It also requires consumables, including some toxic chemicals, a glass plate, and so on. In the end, the investment sounds pretty substantial for making a small run of parts.
My next thought was to look at businesses that can do it for you. So far I have found a few:
http://www.ppdltd.com/web_site_3/page_1_intro.html
http://www.photo-etch.co.uk/page1/page6/page6.html
http://www.photofab.co.uk/
http://saemann-aetztechnik.de/
http://www.orbel.com/photo-etched-precision-metal-parts
I have not looked in detail to see if any of these companies would be happy to do a one-off project. It appears that as a minimum, you need to supply your artwork in vector form, either AutoCAD format or CorelDRAW format. A pixel manipulator (like Photoshop) will not work. Does anybody know of any free CAD programs or vector drawing programs that can output to AutoCAD format or CorelDRAW format?
