SOLEIL ROYAL 1669 by michel saunier

Bravo Michel ! Patrick -
Noel, I simply bought 1mm thick boards that worked as shown in the photos. You have to be quick to stick the first two blades and present them on the shell to get the rounding by keeping it in place for a few seconds. Next sticks the third on the two preceding ones, presents again, maintains. Same for the fourth. The final shape is then obtained in 4 mm which is sufficient to sand and to adapt. I used the universal adhesive. The disadvantage of this method is that by sanding too much the lower blade is uncovered : it is necessary to go slowly. (The other method is to cut into the mass, which avoids this risk). I am glad to have tested and obtained this result. Patrick

Hello everyone ! My name is Patrick, 64, retired for 4 years soon and living in Poissy, a small town located 30 km west of Paris. I have been watching your works on this forum for several years now and as some of my compatriots are doing, I would like to show you a project I started four years ago : a French frigate named "La Renommée". I work from a monograph by Jean BOUDRIOT, the scale is 1/48. At this stage, I just finished the hull and I will show you some pictures without too many comments, the pictures speaking for themselves ... and moreover, my "English" is a bit "rusty". I will go in stages, to condense 4 years of work in a few days of publication. So let's go ... [/url Patrick

Thank you Johann! Without wanting to abuse, could you also provide me with some details about making these small holding tools , particularly on the way to realize and implant the small pins with precision : Thank you in advance and really, congratulations for your wonderful work I have been watching from the beginning. Very nice log Marc ! I love this way of explaining the genesis of things: sculptures, guns now ... all this for a future model of exception. A big congratulations to you for this very inspiring subject. Patrick- 208 replies

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
